simple 1 ton tj

I've been meaning to get up with u about your stoker motor . How do u like it?

Love it. Its the best mod I've done. You get to enjoy it on and off road, and it just makes the jeep so much easier and more fun to drive. Sure, if you've got the time, money, and motivation, go with a V8. But you won't be disappointed by a stroked 6, and the power to dollar ratio is unbeatable.

How much do u have in it? Who built the motor? With mine being a 05 it has can 2 bus which limits me to Hemi if I won't to keep it streetable. I'm on the fence for the ripp super charger I'm sure my 4.0 going to love them 41.5.

I did mine on the cheap back in 2003. I built it myself after I melted the pistons due to a radiator failure. I believe I had about $1500 total in it inclluding the rebuild. I used AMC 4.2 crank and rods, stock 4.0 everything else (pistons were 0.030" oversized). it was about $700 in machine work, $500 for the rebuild stuff, and $300 for the crank/rods. I only had 47k miles on the jeep at the time, so I didn't worry with the cam and head parts, but that's added cost if you've got a lot of miles on it.

These days, there are a few more options, and you can spend a whole lot, and get a whole lot out of it. These days, you can buy a kit with new crank/rods/pistons for about $900 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEEP-4-0L-S...-242-AMC-/230743679211?_trksid=p2054897.l5659), but you can probably source a 4.2L crank for $2-300, and offset pistons that allow you to use stock 4.0 rods for $200ish and have a very similar setup.

Did u have to have a custom tune built? I'm in the same boat with mileage only 40,000 . I figured if I stroked and supercharged if it wasn't enough I can always put it in the comanche and put a hemi in the tj.

Got bored and built me some lower coilover mounts last night. Now I've got to do the passenger and build me a rear cross member, clean some old welds up and get my brake lines in order. I think I'm going to end up going with a solid bump stop for now in the rear and these winter when I have it dialed in I'll put some 2.0 fox on.

It really depends on how far you want to take it. I was just looking to get back on the road. I'm still running stock injectors/cam/intake/exhaust/etc, so there was no need to tune it, and I've still been very happy with the power it makes. I'm sure I could get more out of it, but the jeep has 95k miles now with no issues, so I figure leave well enough alone. A friend of mine put a cammed TBI 350 in his YJ, and our jeeps were side by side up to 70mph, but he was on 33's/D30/D35, and I was on 35's/D60/D60FF so I was at a weight disadvantage.

Awsome sounds like that's the way to go.

Dude that is so wicked cheap (relatively speaking). I've been shopping engine options for a long time now and if I found something reliable for that cost it would have been done a long time ago. Congrats on a great bang for the buck setup.

Build is coming along well.

What year is your tj redlyner

Agreed, and thanks. I had been researching the stroker's anyway, and I was thinking about doing it without rebuilding the motor since the jeep was so fresh still, but I just couldn't bring myself to tear into a perfectly good 4.0. Then fate (and poor design) showed up. Honestly if it weren't for the rebuild, I think it could be done for under a grand if you keep it simple and leave everything else stock.

Rear tire carrier showed up and it is exactly what I wonted. 41s fit perfect open and closes easy, time to start sending parts off to powder coat.. only parts holding me up is my coilover springs should be in by Friday hopefully have it on its on weight by saturday

After moving the axle back 6" I had to do something with the evap. I read and read but no real strait threw answer so I started experimenting. Turned out super simple. You can completely remove the charcoal canister with no codes at all just tie the two hose that went into the can together and your done (see pic for what I left). I also went ahead and removed the rear cross member and added a piece of tubing. The tubing will hold what's left of the evap and the limiting straps.

I know this thread is old but I would like some info "baby hulk" come out, come out wherever you are!!!!!

Neto_09 What would you like to know?

First, I'm amazed by your jeep man, I want mine to be street legal, here in california, are laws for everything, sometimes I wish I could move out somewhere else!!!
Second, in the post #74, was your jeep stretch from the front? If so, how how much? What pitman arm did you use? The stock?, or aftermarket?, at that stage its how I want mine, off road capable and street legal, that might be my DD. Right now I have the 30 35 combo, on 33's, I have a '89 ford dana 60 waiting in my garage to be modified.

Psc box in the stock location with a pitman arm made for a 4" lift. This setup was almost totally use less offroad at the frame height i was running at the time.

I ended up ripping the Trac bar off so the that lead to ls, atlas, new front and rear axles, new suspension and reworking the last 18" of the frame.

I'm not planning on doing extreme off road or rock crawling, but I want my jeep to be off road capable and DD as well. I love how your jeep used to look in the firsts stages of your built. I want to do the same as you did at that time.
