Heim joint steering info

Do you have some comparison to a known-successful tie rod made of square tubing of the same size you're using but with a thinner wall? I don't understand what you're
Was also referring to my hacked up track bar spliced with sch40 pipe that held up 1.5yrs..how's that possible? So I look at if that thin pipe survived that (track bar welded front = lots of pressure) than this double thickness square can more than hold up to the same usage (which this is less strain than track bar has on it)..hope I made sense

Nope... not making any sense.

@trailhugger bent the shit out of a front track bar a couple of weeks ago. Didn't take any hard hits that we know of.

It was not made of poop pipe. But the links are.

So this would be my other option of drag link ...the guy ran it on d60 balljoint with stock arms like mine and was his only option, 7/8heims on 40s...so should I go this route, should clear the leaf better, maybe won't go over as far...just a thought

Thoughts on above before I make something tomorrow..reading on his build, it lasted and held up well, locked on 40s

Since you don't listen to what we suggest I say you get some gorilla tape and pvc pipe to make your steering out of.

Also if you're going to compare set ups on steering, it's best to look at the same style suspension you're running. Maybe like these vvvv

Right we've been over this though ...see that's what I'm talking about. High steer arm is way too much for this stupid axle..same reason that guy didn't do it on the balljoint d60 so can we focus on what I'm working with..and u wonder why I don't listen..whose stubborn???

He has coilover he has the ability to package it that way. YOU HAVE LEAF SPRINGS YOU CAN NOT COMPARE LEAF SPRING SUSPENSION AND STEERING SET UP TO A LINKED SUSPENSION AND STEERING SET UP

Yeah lets keep telling someone only one way works when clearly many other options proven BUT call him a dummy and stubborn for singling him out of other different crowd...whose the dummy now. Now this is where I get ill with you people...so much help you are, go back to drinking

No worries ill go build something to work and be smarter I guess and keep my junk to myself. Thanks

How about you sign off until you come back with some common sense and listen?

Anyways if you want some examples of how not to do you're steering here, some janky ass shit is right here vvv

You don't have enough room for a drag link without going high steer.

Wait so now ur saying I can't "safely" use these heims I bought..even with one under and one on top? WTH are u serious?

We'll need to see an illustration of what you're talking about. It sounds like you wanted to weld a double shear tab to the knuckle and then put another Heim in single shear on top of the other Heim that's in double shear?

...sure they don't build steering for crawlers but they know what the shear strengths are of these different metals and I guess they're advise sold me and my wallet.

Luckily a tie rod isn't loaded in shear.

Honestly I just don't think I will ever pay the outrageous price of DOM...

It's about $40 of steel to make a tie rod out of 1.5dia x 0.25wall round DOM. I don't know how many dollars you want to shave off by using something that isn't as well suited. You saved half the cost, so you saved $20 to make it out of something not as well suited. I'd rather spend the $20 for proper size DOM.

BTW, what alloy is that square tubing?

Can we acknowledge the exhaust clamp on the leaf spring too? Lol

I was man enough to come say hi and shake your hand at the Flats. I was also man enough to come help get you unstuck at The Shop when you were done on Carnage.
As an E-friend, I'm nice enough, like others here, to offer some advice. You however choose to disregard it due to your own stubbornness.
What's the old proverb, "Pride comes before a fall."
That's a good one! Another good one is "A hard head makes for a soft ass"! He may figure that out the hard way, some folks never do until ya got ya front tires looking like a penguin.

Not without discussing the brake line extension.

I like innovation. I like building on the cheap.

What's funny is John is spending MORE money and time building this than a more "normal" configuration.

Holy Cow! I go hiking all day and come home to find this thread has exploded like one of Kim Jong Fats missiles!

The 3rd picture is my idea or something similar. I get the first 2pics isn't right but the 3rd pic is close..will mock up my idea and post pic

I know this was a fail of a mockup now so were beyond that lol..figured that on page 1..will get pic shortly of new idea

Make sure you turn the steering fully towards the pass side before building anything. And droop the suspension out on that side. That's the only way itll clear.

I was referring to something like this:

How bout now..the piece will go past the leaf more to clear then turn up but this is general idea I had

Turn the bolt the other way do you won't hit the threads and fuck them up. Also I don't see any safety washers.

Bueller?

For that matter, what alloy was your $10/ft "DOM"?

That was my point a couple of pages back. He could have put stock style steering on it for cheap.
