well i went to URE for the first time ever. Let me say that I was some what dissapointed. I heard alot of talk on this board about needing lockers to make it up the first ledge on Daniel and to even think about doing the rest of the trail and how there wasn't a bypass. The people who think that must not know how to drive at all. I took my XJ with 3in of lift and 31in All terrains up Daniel and Rocky Mnt. Loop without any problem. We also got an IFS Tacoma up Daniel without much problem. No one took a strap the whole weekend. URE is a fun place to wheel all together but not that hard. Maby i'm just used to wheelin at Tellico cause it's closer to me but I can say that it will be a long time before i go back there. The driving time isn't worth it in my book. I have harder better trails 45min from me right now.

PS anyone who can't take a STOCK jeep through there needs to learn how to drive.

i was with andy and i heard all this chit chat about how daniel was crazy hard and how there was not a bypass anymore. i thought the stuff would be a challenge, but to my dismay it wasn't. while hard lines can me made, i don't think there should be so much talk about how hard it is. i don't remember it being any easier than last year but i might be wrong. i sure hope not.

yup, thats URE for ya. i like it casue its pretty close. its a lot more fun when its wet

Somebody get these guys some cookies.

Uwharrie is hardcore, how else could big woody be a UNF Superstar :flipoff2:

i was hoping that it would rain. don't get me wrong i had fun but i didn't think it wasn't all that hard. not to the extent to which i heard it was. ill go there some more and be more agressive. and no i don't want your fawkin cookies... :flipoff2:

I would like chocolate chip please and a glass of milk if you have it.

No trail at URE is impassable by a stock 4x4 vehicle with the right driver, definetly would not be able to take some of the harder lines, and sections on Daniel are near impossible for many WELL built rigs if it is sloppy muddy like opening weekend.

I have seen many IFS vehicles go up daniel without any problems- many of those were up the harder lines driving with open diffs, as well as a friend has a stock YJ with 31's, and he has done everything at URE worth doing.

URE can be hard when wet, that is probably what you are thinking of when you say that people have said it was difficult, but when it is dry you can do most of it in 2wd.

I was there on sunday-monday, and the traction seemed to be much improved after the light rain we had early monday morning. Was alot tackier, but not really slick except in the deepest of ruts.

UNF is what it is...a legal place to wheel on this side of the state. It's not difficult but WTF it's somewhere to go. I still trail ride there just to see other peoples rigs and socialize a bit, outside of that it's nice just to ride through the woods sometimes instead of beating your junk up through obstacles. When you're ready to do that, shoot me a pm, I'll take ya somewhere closer that you will need at least one locker and lots of protection. :D

Well damn...I reckon you need'nt come down off that dar mount'n den BOY :flipoff2:

It might be easy.....it might even be boring to some. But like anything, there are still people that enjoy it. And as long as they still extract SOME entertainment from it...the place will stay packed.

I know I know...it IS a shame we can't all be as special as you :D

Tell you what, next time it rains for an hour or 2, bring your trash back down, *THEN* talk some smack about "stockers, no straps needed, Mall-terrains... blah, blah, blah"! I agree that the average Honda could do it when DRY, but doubtfull to make it outta the parking areas when slightly damp! :D

Well, I’ve seen more than one “Tellico Tested†4x4 left with no other choice but to winch their way up a Uwharrie trail… Granted, what I witnessed was during a monsoon ‘Wrath-of-God’ downpour, where the ravine on Dutch John was flowing shin-deep like an amusement park log flume -- Nonetheless, few rigs (if ANY!) could have made it up solely under their own power that night!

Personally, I believe those 'moderate' trails are really the actual point of having a place like Uwharrie…

It’s somewhere that a relative newbie can get together with a group of more experienced wheelers and learn the ropes - while at the same time, there are enough optional lines to at least keep the more experienced individuals reasonably well entertained.

Cheers!

[EDIT]

BTW, if we're talking Honda 'Rodeo-Ports', then YES THEY CAN :gitrdun:

I was there when dry...went anywhere I wanted in a stock zookw/ 30s.
Went there April 8th weekend and laughed my butt off at guys having LOTSA trouble on Falls Dam.....then had my turn to be laughed at. It rained off and on on the 7th. All night ...ALL night and it was bad...even for URE.

Matt-loser :)

I do agree that it would be alot harder if it rained. I did have a good time just cause i was out there in the woods wheelin and not at work. It was suprised to see so many hills there. I expected it to be much flatter since it is in the middle part of the state.

I was a little surprise by the topography the first time I went… especially for central NC.

I've been told that those are the oldest mountains in the world, with a very broad and diverse mineral content…

I know there’s gold (although my metal detector hasn’t ever seen fit to find any of it for me  ).

‘Unless you’re a porn star… your worst 4-wheeling trip is still a lot better than your absolute best day at work!’ :D
