Took part in a transmission change out in my bosses workhorse today. Thank goodness for a forklift with side shift! Warmed up 6.7 Cummins vs stock Dodge tranny. No surprises here.

How long did it take? I think I'll have a similar job soon.



Also, flap disk aftermath. Those new HF grinders are no joke.

Naw. I generally always wear a 3m face shield but my brother had it and this was just a quick clean up with the flap disk not a death wheel. Whole grinder hit my face

Bsing around, taking lunch.... 4hrs just to pull it. What makes it a bitch is the trans and tcase are so huge that even on a leveled truck on brand new 285s, they wouldn't slide out from under it without the assistance of a floor jack under the rearend. The whole combo is pretty damn heavy too. A transmission mechanic friend of mine told us we were batshit crazy for even attempting to do the combo still attached. But we also had a forklift to help us out with about a 12in throw side shift. That in itself helped tremendously. This truck has a full 5in exhaust which made it pure hell getting to a few of the bell housing bolts.
That cut looks terrible, btw.

Oh shit. For some reason I thought this was a cutting disk. Damn :eek: a flapper did that!?

So did the disc itself hit you, or the backside of the motor/wheel? Was it just from a kickback?

Due to the number of similar threads on here, I now always wear eye protection at least and often full ace mask, no exceptions.
It seems to always be that ONE time you don't...
Glad you got lucky.
 
Part of Thursday & all Friday, I got to sit next to Lake Norman. Too bad is wasn't Summer. Some Condo community at the end of exit 30, I-77 Davidson. Didn't even know they were there, as it's well hidden! I did notice, if you rent one of their garages, you can park your Bentley inside!
Hard to see, but the last picture shows the creeping traffic on I-77.

That creeping traffic caused me to miss a flight not too long ago. Once you get on that lake crossing, there’s no where to go.
 
Yep! N. bound isn't as bad now, but seems s. bound just gets worse. I've yet to figure that out. Lanes seem Better & wider, but at each ramp, traffic just Stops! I left out heading south at 2:00, & found it stopped. Got rolling about 35 mph, as I came to exit 28, with another stop. Then I realized, O Hell, it's Friday! Got off on 28, & took Hwy 21. Wasn't much better, but at least I had options if needed.
 
Today’s struggle.Junkin an old plow truck to get the 4l80 out and the last bell housing bolt head was about rounded off.I finished if off w a 6 point socket.Broke out the drill and about an hour later, winner,winner.
