Friends XJ flipped on flat ground area in hot springs area on 25-70. About 5 miles past hot springs towards Newport.

Hoping someone can follow me and his friend (who was with him). Just need to flip it and it should be able to drive out after oil settles. Didn't roll and no drivetrain damage so I've been told.

He's a firefighter and stuck on a 48-hr shift so hoping I can find someone to help. Otherwise I'll just use my Jeep and a couple of tow straps to try and get it flipped.

Thanks!

You wil need to pull the plugs and turn it over to get the oil out of the cylinders once you get it upright.
Take oil with you. When I rolled mine, I pulled the plugs, turned it over, and ended up having to add 4 quarts.
So, why is this? Unless the rings are completely shot, shouldn't they (the rings) keep oil from leaking down into the cylinders above the pistons? Is it because it pools around in the head, and then up through any open valves?

The rings dont make a perfect seal. Each one has a few thousands gap where its split so you can work them around over the piston. You then turn each gap 120 degrees from each other (putting it simply, the bottom oil scraper ring is usually 3 pieces itself). At engine speed theres not much time to squeeze the combustion pressure past them, the little bit that does is called blowby, and is handled by the pcv system until its worn out. The rings are designed so combustion or compression pressure tightens them up against the piston and cylinder wall too.

Engine off and upside down, the seal is weaker against the cylinder wall and the oil has time to leak past the ring gap.

When I rolled mine, it landed wheels down and motor still running! Still smoked all the skeeters away for a min.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I appreciate them! I was able to hook tow straps up to the rocker and bumpers and yank it right side up, and then use the rear wench to pull it up the ditch. We pulled the plugs and let sit for a bit. Were a bit gaumy so put in new plugs. Checked the other fluids. It fired right up and was able to be driven home.

heres a pic of yours truly, Mr. Fatty and my minion.

I've flipped 1, & had 3-4 tip overs [on it's side]. Just up-righted them, let them sit a bit [while cleaning my shorts] & fired em up! Don't recall loosing oil, but have lost some gear & axle lube, along with battery acid!

Scott Fields winching class taught me a lot about this. Took 2 vehicles, and a kentic rope. So easy and controlled. This alone was worth the cost of the class.
