NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

It looks like you are enjoying the classic “the good, the bad and the ugly”. One of my fav old westerns.

I purposely added it to the pic. Those spaghetti westerns were the best. The locations, stories, directors, actors and music were outstanding.

Got all the rifles out this weekend and checked zero, cleaned, and oiled them. Thinking I might tote the ol 336 this year since where ill be my shots will be in the 75 yard range. Will probably only carry my 6.5CM when I go with my dad.

I went out the side door to feed and water the dog that was in a doghouse full of weeks old puppies, inside of the back screen porch before going to work one early morning. The sliding door to the screen porch was jacked up and I
would have have woke up them all If I tried to open it.It was almost november and bout 40*. I had some corn in the backyard cause I recently saw some decent bucks close to the house. I opened the backdoor w a gallon of water and a bowl of food and saw a buck in the corn. I went back in the house and grabbed my bow. I hunched down and snuck back out the backdoor to my truck about 20 yrds from the door and about 25yrds from the buck.I stood up and drawed. The buck raised his head and looked at me and I let the arrow fly. He went about 75 yrds and that is the only buck I've ever killed barefoot, in my underwear.......

My first nice buck was killed when inwas 14 out of the tree house my dad built for me when I was a wee lad. My mom babysit's our 4mo old that was sick this summer. I had to run up to their house to help her with him week before last and while I was on the phone with his Dr I looked out the living room window and there was a decent (16ish" wide) 8pt in the edge of the woods. I had a serious moral dilemma at that moment. Hurry the Dr off the phone (relevant baby convoy was over, she was just talking at this point) and grab a rifle to shoot said buck or be a good father and stay on the phone till she was done talking. Mr buck walked back in the woods before I had to make the judgement call though.

Put the phone on mute take the shot, talk to dr while you let the deer lay down.

^ This is the correct response!

I haven't seen anything worth putting in the freezer this year & lots of people know it and keep sending me pics to rub it in:

The last few times I've been in the woods I haven't seen anything at all (guessing they're hung up on acorns?)...about to adopt the 'if its brown its down' philosophy!

I just posted and my uncle sent me this one that a family friend tagged:

Spent all last weekend out east and didn't see crap. Sat in my stand at my folks house 10 minutes from me and saw plenty in 1.5 hours this evening. I don't generally shoot bucks, but i got this guy. Pretty small rack 7 pointer. He stood hidden and watched some does walk all under me for over an hour.

Project doubles as a good drying rack.

Finally got another sit in last night. Light rain all day made it easy to slip around and do some still hunting and scouting since I’ve been out of the woods so long this season. Ended up with about 12 does out in the field but holding out for some horns for a change. Got a lot of rubs around the edge of the field so I’ll probably be throwing the climber in the back of the SxS this week and just play the wind.

Need some advice. Im taking a buddy hunting for his first time and we are going to the mitchell river game lands in surry. Anyone know much about the tract? I hunted there as a kid, but dont remember much except it was a lot of walking! He isnt really looking to take a deer, just get his feet wet. Though he does have his license and will carry a shotgun, just in case. My family has some land up in state road that we might hit on the way out as well, but its a small tract and we dont just go strolling around for fun up there.

Take him squirrel hunting instead of deer. A lot more around and easier to find and can be a blast to hunt
