Ive got my motor, transmission, and transfer case in my jeep (79 cj5,360,t-18, dana 20). I did a frame/ body stretch in the midsection of the jeep. I dont have my skid plate underneath the jeep, so Im using jackstands to hold the tranny and transfer case up. Im using a J-20 t-18, and since I stretched the frame, I opted to not put a short shaft kit in it for now, so my transmission sits farther back than a CJ t-18 normally would. I was planning to make a stronger skid plate from scratch out of 3/16" plate. My question is how can I determine how high/low the skid plate needs to be in order for my transfer case to be in the correct location. I realize that I can raise and lower the transmission and watch to see when the motor mounts are not in a bind, but didnt know if this was accurate enough. Thanks, Travis

I think I would jack or lower the trans/tc until the fan blades were parallel with the radiator, or put a level on the intake where the carb sits.

This is what I made out of 3/16".
