PreRunner to 4x4 Swap

Thanks, it has been a fun build!

It's been a while so just though I would update my build. Nothing major, just odds and ends. This year could turn out to be interesting though...

I completely went through my brakes a few weeks ago, front and rear. I did slotted and drilled rotors on the front with Carquest BCD pads and just OE quality drums and shoes. I was hesitant about doing them, but these things are great!

I was able to get a hold of some 2nd gen Tacoma badges from my buddy. Went ahead and painted them black and stuck them on tonight actually. Nothing major, just a lil something different

I just got my UCA's today, going to try and get them installed this weekend

And last but not least, the to-do list for 2012

Suspension: U-bolt flip kit with Timbren bump stops, shock relocation with a outward angle, and a new leaf pack. I don't know if I'm going to go with a brand name or possibly try to build a set.

Performance: TRD Supercharger with URD Fuel Upgrade Kit (318cc injectors and upgraded fuel pump)

Interior: Would love to get a hold of either power/leather seat out of a 4Runner, or seats out of a Scion Tc. I going to do LED conversion on the interior.

Wheels/Tires: Probably going to get rid of the Duratracs and aluminum wheels and get a set of steels with 33x12.50 MTR Kevlars to play in. I would like to get a set of 18in Fuel Boost wrapped in 33x12.50 or 13.50 for a street tire, since this is my DD/play toy

That pretty well covers it for now... not got to make some $$$

ultra-gauge.com , they are neat little devices and not too horrible on the price.

I'm in the middle of a full interior LED conversion. I got the dash, dome and map lights done, but I ordered the wrong bulb for the AC panel... they will be in tuesday. Here is what I've got so far.

Great job with everything, looks great. Good job with the HID retrofit as well, good to see someone cares about other drivers on the road not just blinding them with their super cool HID lights. :huggy:
Wow,cool. Are the frames etc the same? Surely it''s not just that easy ;-)
Yep, newer GM HDs (and SOME later model 1/2 ton 2wds with torsion bar instead of coilspring, plus the 07+ coilover 2wds) are the same way. 2wd/4wd share the same suspension, steering, etc. Just need to add the transfer case, diff, axles, swap out the 2wd hubs for 4wd, add the crossmember with mounts for the front diff (slight fab work, but not much, cut it off a wrecked 4wd truck and weld it right in on a 2wd), and voila 4wd. I actually cheaped out on on my 2wd Duramax when a hub went bad, 2wd hubs were $250, 4wd hubs were $100, I used a 4wd hub, and disassembled the stub shaft of an old CV axle, stuck it through the 4wd hub, and instant 2wd hub for 1/2 the price.

Thank ya sir! It has been a fun project that still has a lot of options to take

I was able to finish up the LED conversion today with the AC panel... I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I also ordered a customized switch to control my winch. I will go where my factory clock is... it should be here in about 2-3 weeks.

Things are going to get interesting this summer. I've pulled the trigger and I'm going to do a SAS with a toyota axle. I traded a Remington Sendero for a 82 Pickup Axle, transfer case and $500 to boot. I'm going to run a Inchworm adapter for the right hand drop case. Going to do 4.7's in the case, 4.56's and Spartan locker in the front axle.

I picked up a little something something this evening... still needs to be cleaned up, it's a 21 spline, right hand drop, gear driven case.

As soon as tax money comes in, gears for case and diff will be ordered along with the transfer case adapter. I'm going to covert the front end back to 2wd for a while and go ahead and sell off all of that.

Ordered everything I needed from Inchworm... hopefully will be able to get the case geared and installed before too long. I also have to swap everything back over to 2wd, I have the front diff, etc... sold!

For now just waiting on the brown truck to bring some goodies

List Coming :bounce2:

Tacoma to Gear Driven Adapter
4.7; 23 spline Creeper transfer case gears
Speed Sensor Adapter
4.56 gears/bearing kit for 8in diff
Heavy Duty Driveline Kit w/ Creeper Joint

You gonna go duals or just 4.7?

Just doing 4.7's, I want to keep the interior looking semi-stock (cup holders, etc...) plus it's just a daily driver/weekend play toy. Even with the IFS, it being an automatic with 4.56's it crawled pretty well, but I think even with just the 4.7's it will be a big difference

Everything will be here wednesday. I'm trying to get the case nice and clean before it get it geared and installed. Hope to get the case put in here in the next two to three weeks. I have already sold (called dibs) on my IFS stuff. So this should be coming together very nicely.

I think I'm going to run a 3 link setup with a set of Fox 12in coilovers. Still trying to decide on what spring rate to run, but from other build I have looked at I'm thinking TOP: 10in, 200lbs; LOWER: 14in 250-270lbs coil

Look what came in the mail yesterday!

It's coming together nicely. I'm dropping off the case and the 4.7's to let him go ahead and get them in, and thursday I'm doing the transfer case swap... back to 2wd status for me :(

Yeah the guys up at Universal Automotive sold me on it. They swear by it and run it in all of their vehicles. Cost isn't too bad, we can get ahold of it at work for a decent discount. I'm set up with them as a dealer so it wasn't any worse than some of the other synthetic oils

I think it was around 2,000 for the tranny/transfer case, spindles, driveshaft, hubs, and the diff + installation

No, I'm going to have Damien at M.O.B.S. Fab do the link setup.

Josh and Frank are great! They are the ones to did the 4x4 swap on it.
