i got this b2 back when i turned 16. I DD'd it all during high school and even for a few years in college. i went to auburn and i drove it back and forth many, many times before my parents decided to give me something new, a 2000 ford explorer. (still driving both of them btw, it's great not having a car payment.)

i dont have an early pics of the b2, no digital copies i guess i should say. digital cameras werent very common when i got it (mid 90's).

i've done quite a bit to it so far, the build start about a year ago. it's been in a garage most of that time.

anyways, on with pics.......

here it is, when i started with the build:

started by removing the engine, it's got about 200k on the clock, and it was NASTY
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2040004.jpg

cleaned everything up, degreased it, spent hours with the wire wheel on it then painted everything (yeah, it was a waste of time, but i was unemployed then)
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P7020034.jpg

ripped out the POS electric t-case. 4 lo wouldnt work and i was tired of fussing with the shift motor, in went a manual shift and warn hubs
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P7160086.jpg

then i aquired some lift brackets and lift coils from a ranger/bronco II website for dirt cheap. picked up some explorer lieaf springs as well for the rear along with a chevy lowering shackle (lifts ford becuase of the flipped shackle hanger)
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P7230144.jpg

i combined the EX spring pack and some leaves from the b2 pack and came up with these, you can see the extended shackle as well
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC230012.jpg

eventually i found a dana 35 front axle from an early explorer to throw under it.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P3170003.jpg

then my wife and i moved, so i had to gather up all my junk and move it to a new garage

shortly after i ripped out the old D28 POS front axle and installed the lift brackets and D35.

made some custom extended radius arms by hacking up the factory arms and adding some 2x2x.250 wall square tube and a few gussets

found an 8.8 with 373's and a L/S last weekend from a 96 explorer
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC220001.jpg

cleaned it up, ground off the old SUA perches and getting it ready for a SOA.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC230013.jpg

i'm hopefully picking up u-bolts for it this afternoon so i can get it under the truck. the old explorer ones were too short for my leaf pack

moar updates to come!

Cool build. Thanks for sharing!

Also, TTB FTW! ;)

i wheeled the mess out of it in high school. my buddy had CJ on 35's, locked and i'd follow him almost everywhere.

my dad has helped me with some of the heavier stuff, but he's going out of town this weekend, so i made this cradle for the axle
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC260003.jpg

works great, it'll be much easier to get the axle under the truck and then back out to fully weld the shock tabs and spring perches

plan is to hook everything up, set my pinion angle and set the shock locations, then take it out and fully weld up everything. gonna box in the perches for extra strength too

ordered me some currie u-bolts from 4 wheel parts on glenwood yesterday, left work and picked them up, they should be perfect. only $7 a piece too!! autozone wanted $14 a piece (and i've heard they suck). part # is CE9020 in case anyone needs them

going out to the garage tomorrow morning, so there should be 8.8 under the truck next time i post

glad to see a B2 being built, auto or manual?

If its an Auto def put an auxilary cooler on the tranny.

i seen you had built a set of leafs. my brother has a set of 4.5" rough country leafs sitting here. havent been used enough to break in yet.

cool to see! my first 4x4 was a 89 bronco II ($250) put a $400set of 31ats on it 2.9l i think 5 speed and beat the :poop: out of that thing!!

i didnt really post the specs, it's a 2.9, Fm146 (manual 5 speed) and manual 1350 t-case. hope to do a 4.0 swap, with a 1354 doubler down the road

my front is only being lifted 4", i want the rear to sit level, so i'm thinking 3-3.5". how much would he want for them?

8.8 - check

started with the u-bolt spring plates from an explorer that i got with a drum 8.8 a while back.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC260001.jpg

cut off the raised edges so they dont bump the frame at all and threw some paint on them
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC290001.jpg

rolled the axle under the truck and set the pinion angle (6.5 degrees)
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC290002.jpg

then measured for the spring perches, set the pinion angle again, made sure everything was set and burnt them in, then painted the axle

ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC290005.jpg

pushed it back under the truck and bolted everything together

ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC290008.jpg

got a couple more odds and ends to do, but it's under there. i need to go buy some lugnuts for it before i can put the tires back on.

got these tabs from ballistic for the shocks
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_PC290003.jpg

that's all for today

got it on it's own weight finally, lift looks pretty close between the front and rear, the front should settle a little bit after i start driving it.

i couldnt get any good pics as it's still in the garage for a little longer while i tie up all the small stuff. the pinion flanges on the 8.8's are larger than the 7.5 flange. i can either drill out holes and bolt up the driveshaft or swap out the flange from an explorer driveshaft. about a year ago i scored some free driveshafts off craiglist, so i'm just gonna use that flange, i dont like the idea of drilling holes in the pinion flange.

this weekend, i'm taking the rear axle back out and reseting the pinion angle. it's not bad, but it could be better. it's at 6.5 degree now and i'm gonna set it at 10-11. got some new perches off another forum for pretty cheap ,they're fully boxed ones from ballistic.....much beef
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1090002.jpg

got my new perches burnt in this weekend. i like these much better, plus i reset the pinion angle to about 12 degrees.

ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1120007.jpg

started my rear bumper as well
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1130001.jpg

ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1130002.jpg

i cut the rear portion of the body that was hanging down
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1120001.jpg

the bumper will go under it like so
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P1130003.jpg

bumper is mostly done for now. gonna add a trie carrier to it at some point. just need to finish welding some spots and add a gusset or two.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_P1200011.jpg

ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_P1200013.jpg

they look to be 3/16 or 1/4" thick. i was thinking id do a partial box on them though. just in case. i think i'm gonna flip them around the other way too. they can be mounted either way, but i think it looks better if the flat side is out.

wow, havent updated this thing in a while. been trying to get the small stuff done and working on the bumper.

almost have my tire carrier done. used a 1" grade 8 bolt and a 1.5" piece of DOM with a 1/4" wall for the hinge. works pretty damn good for what it is and it only cost about $20.

helped my dad move some stuff at work and scored 4 of these
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2020002.jpg

it's 3/16" plate and is about 23" wide.

used 2 to make a winch plate, just need to get a winch
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2080004.jpg

cut up the old tire mount so i can install it on my new tire carrier, used a bunch of scrap i had laying around.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2080005.jpg

i just need to get my d-shaft shortened, buy a new hard brake line for the rear, get the shocks in, bleed brakes, hook up the steering, hook up exhaust and it'll be ready to drive on the road

got the tire carrier part way tacked together tonight. notice the lovely pollen that's floating around.
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2100002.jpg

the part that holds the tire sticks out so far i cant close the garage door, i think i may cut it down some or recess it into the vertical piece of 2"x3" tube
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2100003.jpg

i like it, the slanted pieces are 2x2x1/8" angled bar btw

worked on the tire carrier some tonight. got dark before i could get as far as i wanted, hopefully i can work this weekend.
welded up everything that i had tacked together

capped off the top
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2110005.jpg

ground it down a bit and then put it on the truck for the night
ai893.photobucket.com_albums_ac134_88_Eddie_BII_P2110007_1.jpg

it's actually straight!!!! lol
