Killer Weldz Thread

I hate all of you for not telling me to switch to unimix sooner. Been using straight CO2 since I started MIG welding in 2002. Got 2 bottles of unimix from Airgas early this week and got to play around with them last night. This is with 85/15, which isn't even the right mix, but soooo much cleaner and easier to follow and control the puddle than with CO2:

Now Airgas is another story. I got 2 40CF bottles of what was supposed to be 75/25 Argon/CO2. One was 75/25, the other was 85/15. The 85/15 bottle weighed 24lbs (slightly underfilled, should be ~25.5lbs), and the 75/25 bottle weighed 20lbs. From what I can gather online, the tare weight is 18lbs, and there should be about 7.5lbs of gas in it. Not 2. :kaioken:

Raise-dip-move. :)
There have been about 7 lbs of filler and 4 bottles of gas on this project. I've experimented with many ways to deposit. Excellent practice with any position imaginable. It's been a tremendous amount of fun. But ready to move back to the manche...!

I tend to miss direct the filler into the tungsten more so than dipping the electrode. My right arm is pretty reliable about locking into position for travel and arc height. Still working on feeding with my left hand...although I've become proficient with 18" of filler just dabbing away [emoji33] . Welding at the bench spoils me. It'll be like starting all over when I start climbing around a chassis to tig weld.

I've been look at a 350P for fast aluminum welding. I need to spend more time with one. The pulse mig is slick

First I've seen pulsed mig! Nice.

I had an instructor walk the cup with pulse Tig on stainless. I swear, looking at those beads was like starting into a foreign Galaxy.

Had to repair a buddy's Rci fuel cell. I don't have tons of experience with aluminum tig, but I thought these turned out pretty well.

Yeah, I mean I guess that will work, but since its a fuel cell, you probably should have gotten Fuller to weld it for you

Squirt gun.......better. Pics 3 and 4...Keep your toe lengths equal on the fillets. Unless it's thick to thin. Shear loads and strength will be better when equally proportioned. Pic 2 on round to flat center screen.... Whatch were the puddle rolls out laying over the edge instead of penetrating. Excessive gun angle or to slow of travel causes this.

Keep learning and hustlin. Here you landed a good gig.
