No way, the rings on the rebar add traction when they are dug into the side of a rock.

Here are a few pics of the rock rings. Like I said, the 3/4" bar is a PERFECT fit in the lip of the wheel. I still have to trim it a little, then sand down the wheel and weld it in. Going to finish making the other two tomorrow probably. Took me about 1 hour to bend the two rings completely (and trim to fit), and get the other two about halfway done, I will take some progress pictures tomorrow (kind of cool to see them before being cut).

As an update to the earlier question in this thread about why to recenter...
I measured the hub bore on my stock 12bolt centers and it is 4.8", while my 1ton D60 hub is 4.92". Apparently, this is another difference between the 8bolt and 12bolt wheels, as someone stated their wheels had a hole larger than 5".
