I decided I'd throw together a little impromptu build thread of what I had going on with the new YJ so far. I picked this jeep up back in August, and have had a great time with it since. I've gotten to wheel at DPG with it, and have wheeled it on other private trails numerous times. I'm very pleased with how its coming along so far.

The day I bought it - HP30 (non-CAD), D44, geared 4.56, locked with Lock-rites, roughly a ~6" SUA spring lift, and 36" IROKs on 20" Rockstars:

The tires rubbed pretty bad in the rear, so I trimmed it out a bit, as well as take the center caps out of the rockstars:

The jeep had a stock transfer case, so I picked this one up from SPOA87YJ... it's a Rubicon Express SYE 32 spline output, with a Carolina Drivelines driveshaft:

Fast forward a bit, after having wheeled it at DPG with no issues, it got a new set of marshmallows at all four corners:

Decided that I wanted to keep the HP30 in the front because it was already geared 4.56 and had a Detroit, so I went ahead and ordered some 4340 chromoly Nitro shafts with the 760x u-joint, courtesy of ECGS:

The jeep didn't come with a rear bumper, so I went ahead and decided to TIG myself one:

On the jeep:

Need to do something about the belly pan, it seems to be good at finding rocks:

As it sits now:

It's come a long ways since I bought it, including finishing out the exhaust and making a new lexan rear hatch for the hardtop, although it still has a ways to go. Look for several more updates in December - should be some good things happening.

Whenever I get time to mount these 54s up.... they're the only tire I could find to fit my wheels. :fuck-you:

lookin good!! nice to see some rockstars gettin some abuse!!

Got a little homebrew tire carrier and rock sliders coming soon for the Red Rocket. Should be on the jeep within the next 2 weeks.

Got the tire carrier mounted with a 36" TSL radial spare, and got my sliders on as well.

I do have some pictures of the tire carrier during the build process, but no more of the bumper. Excuse the ridiculous primer in these pictures... its all I could find at the time. Also, I have a shortened hitch pin in the latch now, drilled to 1/2". The tube for the actual spare mount has a gusset under it now as well, which is not in these pictures.

I went on the principal of doing all of the load carrying through solid mounts; the latch is all a tight solid fit and the hinge is a 2" solid stock piece with a 5/8" hole lathed out in the center. It uses rubber washers in a 3/16" bracket that I welded to the bumper. Also, the tube ends are now capped on the tire carrier.

The bolt I used was a 5/8"x12" bolt at a hardware store that was hot dipped galvanized, and it goes through the bottom of the bumper, hinge bracket, and solid stock - to clamp all the load together.

The bumper is reinforced on the back of the rear crossmember as well, but I don't have any pictures of that. I used these, because they were quick - albeit a bit pricey for what they are: http://www.quadratec.com/products/12066_901.htm

Over the winter break, Race car driver extraordinaire/Postman Sam got the Jeep over to his shop and did a little cage work on it. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Here are some unpainted cage pics that my dad sent me:

The lower half of the stanchion will eventually be tied into the sliders, as well as some other updates. May be a while before I can get it all done, but have a lot planned for it in the near future.

Working on it. Hoping to get some progress done this coming weekend so that it can come up soon. Need to get a winch line on, fairlead on, paint the cage, truss the front axle/do outer seals, and do rear spring perches/u-bolts, and do a steering box brace/skid.

Tried to deliver to boone but nope! Brandon likes to sail on the failboat. :flipoff2:

Cage is about as tight fitting as it gets!

Got some work done on the rig today... was able to knock out the Spidertrax fairlead, Trail Gear winch line, Trail Gear 1.25" wheel spacers, M.O.R.E. boomerang front shackles (lowered the front about an inch), Superior front outer axle seals, and weld the homemade truss on the front axle.

Should have some new pictures tomorrow as well. Hoping to get as much as I can done on the pile over the 3 day weekend!

At this point, the HP30 in the front has just about everything you can do to it, minus C gussets... which I'm still considering. Let's hope it holds up to these tires! Lots of preventative work to make sure it does so far. The welds on the truss are a little sloppy looking in the pictures, but I wanted to stitch weld it so that nothing would warp (which is more important than a very consistent full length weld on something like this).

Took the top off last night to start the process of painting the cage, figured I would throw up a picture of the heep in bare bones.

Got some work done this weekend. Finally got my rear shafts in, re-did the spring perches and shock mounts, and welded the pumpkin to the tubes.
