Well after using my camper for a few years, it was time to fix the rooted wood areas.

My camper is a 1974 Cascade.
I got this camper for free.. I helped a buddy put an engine in his CJ and he gave me this.. It has worked great so far.. but it has seriously needed some work for a while.. so here goes.

This will be on going for a few weeks until I finish it.

Here are pics of it being used for wheeling trips in the past.

The main problem areas are where the jacks were mounted.. over the years water has gotten in and rotted the wood..

After I ripped apart both sides I replaced the 1x2 and 1x3 main supports then layed the plywood up in place and braced it.. once that was all done I put all the exterior paneling back on.

and I have been trying to figure out the best way to seal the wood and new stuff.. I contacted Blaze and got some Al's Liner.. ( I got white)..So I taped off the top of camper and sprayed all the new wood and about a 4" strip around the sides.

After that I took some angle iron cut it to lenght, then Drilled holes in it so I could attach it to the new wood. I am trying to make better supports for the jacks and by running the angle iron it will spread the load along the entire camper.. not just the corners.

YOu can see the difference from bedliner vs not

next is to get the jacks mounted back up.. then attack the inside.. it is time to update the inside.. needs some paint, some new wood, new floor, etc...

Looks good. I've done a couple travel trailers myself. I don't know what your plans are for the interior, but luan or door skins from a hollow-core interior door work great for replacing that circa-70's paneling. It's cheap, thin, lightweight, and takes stain pretty well.

Well I found a cheap parts camper on CL.. so I brought it home today and put it in the garage.. soon these two will become one :)

Score !!!! That pop up will be awesome when you get it fixed up !!! J/K The tracks look like they will work good...

yup soon comes the point of no return :)

Sweet, the liner work out good for you? The white come out ok?

if I was to spray it again.. I think I could make it come out better.. plus if I had a second gallon then I would not have rushed so much and would have got the entire thing covered better..

started off great.. but i think due to humidity and time it started to get hard in gun was was having a hard time spraying last panel. but I am pleased..

I found that too when I was spraying my Trans Am interior with the sound deadener. With the high humidity, it started getting chunky before the whole gallon was sprayed. I sprayed the next gallon in two 1/2 gallon batches and it worked great.

Dude, I have never met you, but I am continuely amazed at the projects your undertake and accomplish. I'm curious what you are going to come up with on these campers. You also must have a very understanding wife.

I have a few odd boxes of hardwood flooring, also at any given time I have odd boxes of click-lock laminate and small vinyl and carpet remnants. Hit me up if you need any. Kinda hit or miss though, but can save something for ya.

thanks I guess..to be honest it is all because I am cheap.. :)

Usually stems from me looking at overall price of an item and saying is that really worth that much.. and to me usually not. so then I sit back and think hmm how can I build that or modify a similar item to work like that very expensive item.

As for my wife.. Trust me I appreciate her more then anyone knows.. she is very understanding with me and my projects (hell, she let me build a big shop in our backyard) but at the same time she loves that I DO NOT go out and spend big money on projects.. she likes that I am cheap.. especially since she has an entire room full of shoes, pants, shirts, etc.. Yes her closet has like 100 pair of shoes, 50 purses, 100 pair of jeans, etc ( shh do not tell her I told anyone)

So Again I will publicly thank her for letting me play in the garage :) and with my toys.

As for the plans for the camper.. I plan to steal a bunch of parts off the pop up and put them on the bed camper.. you willneed to watch and see :)

Yep, just prep it like you would normally. It'll stick right to it.

ok cool I will let ya know if I will use some more

Hahaha.. Yes John heres most of my ideas.. some good some crazy.. but still fun to think outside the box

well took some measurements last night of pop up slide and then interior of bed camper.. and it will work.. but I need to shorten the slide to fit and keep the bed camper strenght.. so tonight we start cutting and fitting :)

Well Jph0913 came over to give me a hand and make sure the camper did not fall apart on me :)

we tore apart the pop up and took the slide off, then took a bunch of measurements and cut it up to make it a little smaller :)
