Is this for real, URE race?

How can they charge spectators? I always thought it was free to be at URE as long as you stay off the trails (in a vehicle).
At $35/person for a weekend pass just to watch, that is ALOT of money. I too would like to know where all the excess money is going to...
It also seems that this is "americanwheelers" first event. It will be interesting to see if more than 20 rigs show up...
If mine's done and it happens, I'll be there. Now I have something to plan to be ready for...

It is free @ Uwharrie. The festival is at Kings point and and all the vendors will be there along with food, music and other activities. That is what you are paying for. Along with the cost of insurance, the crew of dozens of people that will be running the event, the full time medical response team, and so on. This is a legitimate event and it costs a great deal of money to throw. Not to mention the national advertising in 3 of the best 4 wheel mags which we are slated to be in in April.

Please post any specific questions you have on the "Uwharrie 4x4 Cross Questions and Answers" thread. I will address them there. Please be patient as I do have a day job!

I have spent an hour on the phone with Shawn. The CTB logo STAYS. While I'm not asking anybody to sell the farm, I am asking that we give Shawn and American4wheeler a little respect. Shawn seems like a regular guy like the rest of us, and just wants to wheel. His dream of starting a company and possibly making a living doing something he loves is a Dream of mine also. He seems to have all his ducks in a row, and most of his paperwork is completed. All the insurance, permits, and other paperworks are complete, and as far as i know, public record. That does not mean he has to show all of that online.
And he does not wish to give his home number or home address to the internet.
This is where his buisiness is...at home.I cant really blame him on that. His web-site is where all his buisness is at this point, and we all have full access to that. After speaking with him, I have had a change of heart, but What you end up thinking will be up to you.I am just telling you how I feel, right now.

I would like to use this post, to try some damage control on this board. Lets not throw Shawn under the bus anymore.
Lets give him a chance to iron out all the details in the upcoming days/weeks/months. I for one, am all for having an event of this type, just so I can have some real fun and rip it up! Use your own judgement, but give a little respect and time for it to work out. This could be the coolest thing since sliced bread!lol

4x4 AutoCross

Here is a clip from the webpage:

"As long as you do not go over the set amount of time between you and the next racer and don’t go outside of the markers, you won’t be disqualified."

This is the wikipedia definition of autocross

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autocross

I expect that this event will be like an conventional autocross except based on a off road course.

Thinking out loud, I got a problem with taking over public land for an event like this. Sure, the USFS regulations say that there is no exclusive use allowed, but does anybody really expect that the regular trail users will be able to get thru Kodak when this is going on...I can see contestants, spectators, etc all patiently waiting while a noobie dweeb, wife and two kids try and pass thru the trail in his brand new JK. :) What about the ATV'ers (and Jeepers) that show up (after who knows how long a drive), buy their pass at Eldorado, then find out half the trails are closed/impassable?

Even when a major club/internet event like Zuwharrie happens, folks can still merge in and enjoy their time on the trails, even though they aren't part of the big group.

I just hope you can get the word out that some trails will be closed/restricted/delayed to all the ATV'er, motorcycles, etc...I could envision you having a lynch mob on your hands.

The other thing that pizzes me off about it is that April and May are pretty well already booked up for me....I already had that weekend penciled in as my first opportunity to get to UNF after it reopens in the spring. :( I think I'll pass now.

I just think that UNF is too small (and public) a venue to support something like this.

Look I'm with Dylan w on this one. Everyone in the area wanted something big like this to happen around here and now it is, and the excuses are coming out big. With the respect that Dylan has on this board(never heard anything bad) Maybe we should cut this guy some slack. Just think about what this is bringing to the area.

$100 says it will never happen.

Just for official record, I will step forward to be the guy to collect that from you in the event that it actually does.

You got it. Have your $100 ready in May:D I'll be in the red and black buggy, and will pay your $100 to whoever is faster than Greg on the trail of my choice.

The $100 bet was a raise on the $50 bet. Sorry Dylan.

i'm trying to be positive about this, however it seems like an area w/ some challenging terrain like dpg, or other priv land would be a much better location

''I just wanna go fast momma''
Ricky Bobby

You could really open it up at UNF. Part of me wishes it was on the dirt roads. Can you say Rally Racing in a WRX?
or a pinto for that matter:driver: I just wanna go fast too!

Thats the thing, and the key to this event i think. Not everyone can handle the challenges of the other places were they hold events.

With this event, a guy can go straight from the dealership to uwharrie and have a snowball's chance in hell. Thats where your going to get the turn out.

I'm psyched about this. Now I want to take a day off in the spring and practice on this course. I've been working on my rig's "go fast" abilities for months now. If I could build a little driver skill maybe I can do something.

This is going to be cool.

I see people slamming into trees and getting hurt...but I hope this works out.
No kidding. Ive seen too many people drive bad when they are "Krawlin". The carnage from this event is going to be great. First time legal 4wheeling makes the Charlotte news!

yeah. years ago i was going a little too fast (maybe a lot too fast) on the gravel road and slid off in the ditch, right in front of the ranger.

the only ticket he gave me was for damaging some small plants, ended up being like $500 worth :shaking: he said the fine goes up the larger the plant...

point is, if people get excessive and out of control, this same type of situation could happen again.

I see that going on and people going fast pre running the said course and someone getting runover then the show is OFF....
I'm looking into it know to see if he has all the proper tax permits and use permits to see if that side is in line.

I hope the Emergency team has a helicopter on stand by. I see someone really getting hurt. There are some really steep hills at URE. Im talkin about off the trails.
