Anyone been out on the trails lately? Is it still ridiculously groomed flat? Planning a trip somewhere, but if it's a bunch of forest service roads these days I may try Kairos.

My daughter and I took her stock tj and my XJ up falls dam and wolfs den last week. The small obstacles on those trails had stacked rocks, the rest was in pretty good shape.

All I got.

Some recent posts on some FB groups say they recently paved everything, like a few weeks ago. It will take a handful of heavy rains to wash everything out again.

If true, we need some high horsepower rigs with big tires to go down there during a thunderstorm and Make Uwharrie Great Again.

I have never taken my YJ to Uwharrie. I’m sure I will at some point, but it just hasn’t appealed to me. I don’t even remember the last time I wheeled around Uwharrie period really. I’ve just reached a point of frustration with that place that even though it’s 45 minutes from me, I’d just as soon head to Kairos or Harlan.

He said high horsepower rigs :flipoff2:

I wish it wasn't 6 - 7 hours for me to get to Harlan.... I have nto been but might be going August 1st weekend.

I really want to check out Kairos once I get my Jeep finished. According to Googlemaps, that place is only 2 hr 39 min from my house.

I enjoy wheeling Uwharrie though. It isn't extreme wheeling, but is relatively close to my house. Part of the reason maybe nostalgia and history too. I went there for the first time in 1990 with my dirt bike.

Agreed. I do love the place, it’s special to me. I mostly hate dealing with the crowd there. Last time out, me and @Chris_Keziah ran into a group of drunken obnoxious tweens. Had a couple mud crickets that were so drunk they were falling down, and one of the dudes made a few comments to us trying to start a fight. We were just sitting at the top of Daniel minding our business when they came along. I ignored the dudes comments cause I’m too old and fat to be fighting dudes and dealing with that.
He eluded to the fact that we were privileged and loaded cause we had “big Jeeps” and went to far away places to wheel.

I know that’s not all people there, but it’s become pretty common.

Try to go on a weekday. I've been taking the bike there every Friday morning and maybe see 2-3 people the entire time. I avoid URE as much as possible on Saturday and sundays.

I’m planning on spending some “office” days out there soon. At least to get my son out of the house some.

Went last Friday in the Side by side. First time there in years. Daniel and Dickey Bell have fun lines as usual but the rest is a highway.

I was afraid of that. I've never been to Kairos and it's 6 hours from me. From pics and videos it looks like a step up from URE. I figure people only post pics and video of the more extreme parts. But are there trails for my old sprung over cj7 on 33's or will I be pulling cable everywhere at Kairos?

plenty of easy and mild trails at Karios that a Rig on 33s can do.
