My neighbor has a deposit on a cybertruck

When I'm standing in front of it is when I'll eat the crow. Same with you :huggy:

Yeah...its honestly more of a speculative play.
If the demand spikes for these I'll flip the build slot for a few hundred bucks.
In the interim Ill get all the cool info emails.
And I got the dealer to also order in a new f350 to my spec for me to consider, no obligation...

So chance that I actually convert the deposit to a Bronco?
Probably 25%

Maybe when they compare the market take rate that Jeep has of manuals they will change things up in a few model years.
Jeep sold 230,000 wranglers last year.
(For perspective Ford sold 195,000 F150s in Q1 of 2020 alone)
According to Fiat only 8% of all wranglers are sold with a manual transmission. This seems low to me just from observation.

At best the bronco is an R&D project. At worst its a personal vanity project. I dont think any sales number is going to move the needle here in what they build

I figured that GOAT transfer case would need control over the transmission to make most of it's nonsense work.......mother gawkers!
Well, I'm out! Maybe when they compare the market take rate that Jeep has of manuals they will change things up in a few model years.

I was semi-excited to possibly get a base model Squatch....but the manual made up for the 4-banger.

The 8% is shocking. Maybe things have flip flopped over the years. I would say YJ's and TJ's have to be at least 70% manual transmission, maybe higher.

I would agree, I don't think they're going after the 8% for a dip-your-toes project. With the amount of cost involved in engineering and validation, limiting the available options for powertrain/drivetrain is sometimes the only thing that makes a project like this financially viable for a car company. Doing a manual trans may only make sense if you can pull it from another vehicle family and don't have to include a bunch of other stuff that requires a complete re-validation from scratch.

If they were serious a Coyote/manual combo would be solid. But they will save that for 3 years from now once the first wave of sales dies down. Kinda like a v8 wrangler.

bingo.
That and get the kinks in the driveline worked out before throwing all that power at it.

It's gotta be possible to get the electro-mechanical TC behind the Manual, That along with the 4.70 Axles is the only way to get the 94.7 crawl ratio they are pushing. So get that setup from the factory, then you'll be able to add the Dana Performa-Trak lockers and a lift kit from the aftermarket, Plus the 35" takeoffs from the fool who immediately replaces the ones on his new Badlands with Nitto's on 24" rims...

I don't think it'll be possible to get this combo out of the order sheets though.

This is my plan in 2022 or 2023 if I take the plunge.

No manual behind the V6, all the tech 'modes' and screens and gadetry is a fail.
A manual trans, rear selectable locker, deep t case gears and beefy axles is all a BRONCO needs.

But as with any hyped car release in the past 10 years, it's a huge let down and left so much 'could have been' on the table.

It is a let down to the 5% of people that may have bought it. As much as many on here like manuals, they are dying. Putting more money into R&D for them just isn't worth it for the manufacturer.

All that it needs to be an "awesome" off roader to some people here is an manual on the v6 with sasquatch. But, lets be honest, most of us would still never buy an offroad rig that much, and ford also doesn't care, i'm sure they did tons of market research.

Negligible 'engineering' cost for the manual behind the V6. They already have the trans and bolt patterns, the mustang V6 has a manual, the engine/trans coding is already there for the 4 cylinder model.

Very low cost, especially when compared to the stupid GOAT modes that have to be developed, coded, tested, and debugged over and over again. That is very expensive. Then you have 17 speed sensors, engine load sensors, multi channel ABS sensors, throttle and brake pedal sensors, steering angle sensors all to make those modes work. That no one will ever really use. So much time and cost.

They wouldn't sell as many without the gimmiks?

Get rid of all that non sense, knock $10k off the price, and watch them fly off the shelves. If we want gimmiks and screens and snow modes in the desert south west, we have options from all other manufacturers.

I have to ask..what is the appeal to a manual in a truck platform?
I dont get it.
Years ago when autos were slow shifting and power robbing and prone to failure..I got it. Sort of. Even then my inclination was to "build a better auto".

I get the fun to drive factor in a sports car. But I honestly dont get it in a truck. Why would you want it?

Does it somehow make you more manly to grab a stick and tug on it?

Wish there was a 'this hit me in my soul button'...but you'll have to settle for a like and then an unlike, just so I can like it again.

A manual makes everything more fun to drive. No one can argue that.
It's cheaper.
And in this case, it would mean more analog/mechanical/reliable driving experience ( this is a Bronco BTW, not the new Ferrari) vs. over hyped tech that most will never use but 'have' to pay for.
I get tech, and it's amazing when pushing a car to 10/10ths, but it is not needed here.
Your underdeveloped mind sexual innuendo is lame.

Personally, I suck behind the wheel of an automatic transmission.....my brain checks out, my following distance goes to shit, my panic braking goes up, and in general my overall attentiveness to what I am doing goes WAY down.

I suspect a lot of the crappy driving habits I see day to day could be remedied by people being responsible for an additional level of vehicle control.....instead we add touch screens that don't allow for muscle memory (remember reaching over and knowing by feel what button to push to seek or scan), we add computers that read your msgs. And allow you to multiply your hands free distraction.

One of my first vehicles was a K20 with manual steering, manual drum brakes and a 3-on-the-tree.....I am so thankful that vehicles poor performance in all aspects of vehicle dynamics is permanently burned into my brain, I get into everything thinking it will stop and turn like a dump truck.

I like to believe driving a stick shift will help me keep driving later in life by constantly challenging my brain to stay engaged.

I literally am arguing that a manual isnt more fun to drive.
So you cant say "No one can argue"

I drive a TON...like 60k+ miles a year. Which means unfortunately my truck becomes my office. Im talking on the phone, sometimes eating lunch, sometimes navigating on a phone, or shufling through a paper while sitting in traffic... I dont need another requirement of my hand. More than I like to admit Im holding the wheel with my knee even.

So no...a manual isnt more fun. Or when you are caught in rush hour...I get my leg workout at the gym I dont want to do leg presses on a clutch every 8 seconds for 45 minutes.

Ok... true. You can just about always find that one person who drives 10 billion miles a year, eats and drinks and talks on the phone and puts on makeup and watches TV while driving. That person would obviously prefer an automatic transmission.

This is a Bronco discussion, a toy/fun vehicle discussion.

Would you choose a Bronco/supra/Wrangler/M3/911 to drive all those miles in and work out of?
