IS IT OPEN?

Hi Everyone – I know you all have a lot of questions about when the OHV trails are going to reopen on the National Forests in NC – Uwharrie National Forest. I have attached the official press release that came out today for the Badin Lake OHV Trail Closure Extension. The OHV trails will be remaining closed through May 31st with a tentative date of June 1st to reopen them.

We understand this is frustrating for all of you. We are trying our best to get our janitorial contracts modified to include the CDC guidelines for disinfection and cleaning more frequently for our vault toilets, bathhouses, restrooms, and trash pick-up. We are also trying to develop our safe working practices, purchase the PPE and other supplies we will need to work in the office and the field in order to provide an environment that meets the health and safety needs of the public and our employees. We appreciate your patience.

Thank you. Bye - Terry

Badin Lake Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail System on the Uwharrie National Forest will remain closed through May 31. This federal agency operating decision was based on regional data and best available information regarding local health and safety.
We are working with our state and local partners as we determine the best path forward to safely reopen the trail system as local conditions warrant. The Forest Service's highest priority is ensuring the safety of the public and our employees on national forest system lands while supporting mission critical functions.
Forest Service officials are regularly evaluating the situation and working with local communities on phased plans to reopen sites and facilities as soon as this can be accomplished safely.
We are looking forward to again seeing these sites filled with the people from the communities we serve, enjoying the full benefits their national forests have to offer.
For more information please contact the Uwharrie Ranger District at (910) 576-6391.

The Rona must only effect the ohv trails and not bother people on horses at all. The Rona must not be an issue at Brown Mt which has already been open a few weeks to everyone. This is all more government horse shit.
The fed is 100% incompetent and ignorant and corript. Just go on the trails. We pay for them.

Is it ok to go ride Uwharrie if you are protesting?

I am glad they finally opened, but can you imagine the shit show that it will be this coming weekend out there? This will make a normal opening weekend look like a ghost town by comparison. On the plus side, probably will make for some really epic destruction of beater rigs that have been couped up at home hiding from the Rona, lol.

I believe you are 100% right, its going to be packed this weekend. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see said vehicular breakage.

And yes, I am dumb enough to be spending the weekend there.....

If you ever wanted to take your wife's stock SUV or all wheel drive mini van, this would be the weekend to do so. Everything is groomed except the couple of rough spots on Daniel. The hill climb on dutch John was in great shape and then someone got stuck and spun out two giant holes half way up (or down) so that may suck for a few. Otherwise, same ol UNF.

I bet those two holes on Dutch John are the same ones that always form up there near the top, right? Seems like every year they fill them in and not long after opening they are dug out almost instantly.

nope half way up...looked like amateur hour. If it's not moving on rock, heat them up, not moving on dirt, back up.

So is anyone else going down tomorrow?

Went out for a few hours this morning. Extremely crowded. Spent half the time pulled off the trail letting big groups (20+) pass. About 15 waiting in line at Dickie Bell hill. Lots of ATV's everywhere including several running on the forest roads. I almost had a head-on with one on Dutch John Road, he was passing another ATV on a curve at a pretty good speed. I'll go back sometime on a weekday; too many people in too little space today for me.

If I could do it in front wheel drive I would!lol My son wants to get out there. Probably going to be too slick for that though. After I get my rear drive shaft replaced, I'll be up for a weekday day trip with little man.
