F450 CCLB Insurance question

My F-350 was a cab and chassis truck and had one digit in the VIN that was different than a regular truck. According to my insurance lady that digit signified that it was delivered as an incomplete vehicle. She insured it as a commercial vehicle but the insurance premium was no different than a regular truck.

Same here F-350 C&C... the gal kept saying "commercial" and I kept saying "personally owned & not for hire". After she told me the cost was the same, aside from another invoice (from the rest of the fleet), I let her win...

So I was about to say I was super jelly of all the larger than 1 ton trucks you guys have. Then I went all ADHD and am trying to determine what this truck purgatory is...larger than a one ton. Is it a heavy light duty or a light medium duty truck???

My son and I were talking about this the other day. We determined that the f450 and f550 were "light medium duty" and bigger were medium duty. I've never heard anyone else say that before!

10-26k is medium duty, 26k and up is heavy duty.

@mcutler would be the one to ask. He's the one I orginally learned that a 450 is considered commercial to insurance.
Yep, gvw over 10k iirc, needs business policy with farm bureau. Full coverage on the f450 was about $65 cheaper than my 3500 Chevy dually of the same year (both 08) on my personal policy with multiple vehicle discounts...

For me through farm bureau I have to have a business policy due to so many vehicles, but it's actually cheaper than the personal policy was. I think it's a non issue.

How Is this poster relevant? I’ve weighed over 42000 pounds with the 550 and a load of cows.

Somewhat interested jibber jabber about classes, and how the various mfgrs play weight games:

Well he bought the truck and his insurance agent told him he would have to have a commercial policy, but for some reason they called him back and said that wasn’t the case and was just able to add it to his existing policy. Full coverage wasn’t even too bad. I guess it really does just depend on the agency, because I sent the vin to my insurance agent and she told me it would require a new BAP policy.

Whatever the case, it worked out well for him. He got a sweet tow beast at a stupid good deal. I got word there will be more of these coming available soon and may pick one up myself!

I thought the F450 had 10 lug wheels?
F450's were 10 lug up till 2010

11-14 F-450's are really just F350's with a higher GVW

2015 they reintroduced the 10 lug 450
