Would you?

if it’s been ‘bulletproofed’ I wouldn’t hesitate. If it hasn’t, and you have a spare $4k to throw in on top of the price tag, no reason you couldn’t drive that thing another 200k.

I would. I totally trust a 6.0 once bulletproofed. And even if it hasn’t been, I’d drive it for a little bit then have it done.

It’s like this in that price range:

Dodge-needs a transmission or a clutch
Duramax- needs injectors
Powerstroke- needs bulletproofed

At the end of the day all of those cost nearly the same, and you can’t go 2 miles down the highway without passing 3-4 Powerstrokes with a 6.0, once all the stuff is done they just go and go. Granted, Ford parts a little pricier, but that’s just part of owning a Ford.
It’s a great looking truck with low miles.

Yeah, the bulletproofing is the only thing that holds me up. The dealer has no record of it being done. Carfax doesn't show it going in under warranty for anything like that. If I could have talked to the original owner of the truck and asked, I'd be all for it also.

You can look down thru the valve cover and see if it has head bolts or studs. That and visually see if the EGR is there or not. Other than that it’s a gamble and most places won’t give the previous owners info so you just take the risk. But I’d count on having it bullet proofed at some time in the near future, as mentioned above you’d spend about the same on a Cummins or a Duramax in some fashion.

Head bolts vs studs. Pretty easy to tell.

As others have said, it's high for a non-studded 6.0. But if it HAS been it's priced right. Ask for a carfax from the dealer. Contact PO yourself

Love the vinyl floors. Also, I always look for a GN or 5th wheel connection in the bed when shopping used trucks. Not a instant no go but may give an idea to what it has done in a previous life.

More photos for your inspection.

I was always concerned with one pulling a lot with GN or 5th wheel. My truck has a GN was owned by some sort of contractor at some point, figured it towed a lot but when I went to use the GN the flip ball had rusted in place and had to beat it out. Still had original grease dried up on it and the ball hadn’t even been used or didn’t show that it had, and it has now but I’ve only used the GN 5-6 times in 4 years

My opinion, that's a $13k truck max. Nothing to do with it having a 6.0, but because it's a 14 year old truck in a lower trim level in a less desirable color (regardless of whether or not you prefer those things, it affects the value of the truck). I'd rather have a bone stock 200k mile truck in good condition than a tuned and deleted and bulletproofed one that someone else has ragged on (not saying this one has, just that bulletproofing isn't necessarily good, and stock isn't necessarily bad).

Usually only if it's an LB7.

If I'm not mistaken, @Hunter44 hasn't had very good luck with his bullet proofed 6.0.

Then again, my uncle had a bone stock 03 that went 315k before the FICM went out and it burned a piston somehow.

Damn...he didnt talk about your momma bro

Mention one little flaw about a dirty max and you start cutting throats :huggy:

Just made a statement  Not sure what's cutthroat about that.

It's very much true though. VCO injectors suck (along with poor filtration). Everything after the LB7 had SAC nozzles... What'dya know? They didn't shit the bed constantly.

Has nothing to do with the bulletproof job and everything to do with it being a poorly designed engine from the get go.

6.0s are shit, should have listened to everyone from the get go but had to learn the hard way. But then again I’m 26 and drive it like a drag truck everyday so. Delete it, do ARP 625, coolant filtration system, and oring the heads and roll. There’s my input

I wasn't going to jump right in the deep end, but that's pretty much the bulk of it.

I've seen some real bad machine work on the block decks, the heads are of marginal thickness with terrible valve seats, the valve train geometry is a joke, and it's only got...what...4 head bolts per cylinder?

Personally, I'd leave it stock (except for EGR delete) or leave it alone.

@Croatan_Kid you’re right about the LBZ and up, pretty much no issues after that however you will pay a hefty popular tax for that motor. Which is my dream truck, maybe one day. But I still like the 05-07 Fords too.

@Hunter44 admitted to driving his like a child, there’s your problem. As I mentioned before there are tons of 6.0s on the road going strong. None of the big 3 hold up to being abused like that. Drive it like a dumb spoiled teenager and it will fail. I believe you can take any of the big 3 and drive them like adults and treat it like a truck and they will do fine. Treat it like a race car and you can expect to throw many at it like a race car.

Now that it’s been pointed out, it does appear to have red overspray in the dense wells, on the brake master cylinder and in the intake boot. Def looks to have been painted recently.

It was a joke. Everyone knows you're the resident Chebby lover extraordinaire. So when shots were fired your way you came back swinging

Also be leery of any 6.0 head gasket jobs done at the dealership. The manual shows the tech to check the heads for flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauges, then stick back on if within spec.
No machining, no disassembly to check valve seats, guides or stems no checking for cracks. It's a joke.
