I need help trying to figure how what kind of dana 44 I have, I'm trying to order a high steer set up and I dont know who made this axle aka dodge chevy or ford. Any help on how to identify the different. it is a driver side drop

Post some pics, and give us the lug pattern.

If it's full width, DSD it is either a 79 back Ford or 94 up Dodge from a 1/2ton truck. Also were available in Grand Wagoners in DSD but I forget the year range. Like said above photos and specs would help.

Sounds like a Ford F250 axle but I could be wrong without pictures.

If it is a high pinion, I'dsay you have a 78-79 ford. As others said, one pic would get a definite answer.

Here are pictures it's a low pinionbtw

I'm thinking it's an 80-90 model dodge axle from what I have found but I'm not sure also I'm having a time finding a high steer kit for that model range any help is greatly appreciated I'm trying to go test this rig at uwharrie at few time before the season ends so I can fix the bugs over the winter

What is the lug pattern? 5x5.5?

being a 44, can switch to whatever knuckles would suit him best? Such as for or Chevy? I know that those two are interchangeable. My friend has a Chevy 44 with Ford outer knuckle so they match the 9” rear. In fact, the same friend has a set of 8 lug Chevy axles with 5:38 gears and lockers he’s looking to unload. They are already out and in the bed of his truck. @Noel

So to back things all the way up, you're looking for info on what axle you have so that you can order high steer. After looking at the pictures, the passenger side knuckle you have can be machined for high steer and the driver side is already set up for it. Why not just have the passenger side machined and then order high steer arms for the 3 bolt pattern?

Looks like a Ford axle with Chevy knuckles to me. Machine the passenger side and rock on.

Dodge didn't use drivers drop axles until 94, and then it was a CAD axle. Might be Dodge outers, but it's definitely not a factory Dodge housing.

Yeah I was looking at sending them to be machined and drilled by 4 wheel supply but I had found a kit that had a knuckle, 2 arms, tie rod ends, and weld on bungs but my caliber brackets bolt to the knuckles and it didnt look like that was the case with the Chevy knuckles any help there I just dont wanna order that kit and my brakes not work

I'm not very familiar with other makes of D44, but I have several Dodge 44's. The knuckles in your pics look like Dodge knuckles from 80 to 93.

Was that kit from eBay? If so, there should be a “make offer” button. In the make offer form, ask if they can/will sell you the kit less the knuckle. Send your current knuckle for machining and then use the rest of the parts from that kit.

I bought my high steer kit from eBay and didn’t need the putman arm that was included. I made an offer (a lowball one at that) less the pitman arm and they ended up accepting it.

Look for a BOM number stamped on the short tube.
I bet it's a 1980 and up J20 housing with later Dodge knuckles.
J20 are low pinion, 8 lug and driver's drop while being near full width.

This guy would know! I thought it was a high pinion from the picture.
