I am looking to get into a newer model F150, 2011-new. I am wanting to know what to stay away from in regards to models, powertrain etc.

I have been doing some research and seeing issues with the new 10 speed transmission.

First hand good and bad experiences are appreciated!

My dad has a 2011 F150 4x4 Supercrew 5.0 v8 6.5ft bed and it has been trouble free for 70 or 80k miles or however many he has on it. Needs more power, but don't they all?

Also, it might be for sale soon.

My uncle has an 11 with the 5.0. I think he's around 220,000 miles. Nothing but normal stuff. Spark plugs, oil changes, brakes, trans services, and air filters.

I have been driving Toyota's almost exclusively, and have depended on the reliability. I have heard good things of the Ecoboost, 5.0, and the 6 speed transmission so far.

Is the Ecoboost the better engine over the 5.0?

Ecoboost has a lot more low end torque because it's a turbo motor. Fuel economy is better if you drive super gentle. It's only slightly better if you drive like a normal person. 5.0 wins out on reliability and sound. Ecoboost on power.

The new ones can tow 2 jeeps to Harlan

For real world experience...I was hauling a 30’ trailer and a 6600lb rig on top of it with my wife’s new 3.5 Expedition a couple weekends ago from Riceville, Tn back to Salisbury...and it did in fact make the trip as well or better than anything pre-Y2K. Bonus benefit...ventilated seats, so my balls were nice and chilled the whole trip.

I daily a '17 F150 XL 2wd lwb 3.5 turbo-delete V6, 6-speed auto.....no problems for the two years & 46,000 miles.

I have towed lightly, but it has been an all-around great truck. The regular cab has a ton of room, knocks down 20 mpg mixed driving (21-22 if I stay sensible on the interstate)

Smart ass way to say I bought the base 3.5 V6....
I've got the same motor in my mostly commuter F150. I've been happy with it.

What motor did you go with?

Went with the 3.5L EB. Pretty happy with it so far.

Ive put just over 300 miles on it, down to EI and around the area since Friday. 24mpg trip average on the way down and has dropped to 21.8mpg avg around town since.

Drove a Buddy’s ‘12 5.0 today and around town couldnt tell much difference.
