Stolen trailer, police no help need advice

Seriously? That's all you have?

I am thoroughly disappointed....

I expected at the very least a vague mention of a structure fire in your response!
Fret not! I had that in the first ten posts, but it got deleted ;)

If I had any idea how to have the reason for your post deleted as my sig. I would be all over it.....

Just to add, the Police don't give a Damn, about your property! Or the DAs. Not worth their time or effort. I personally been through it one time, years back. And a friend of mine had his car stolen, by an acquaintance of his. He has the name & addresses of this guy. Thief lives in & out of 2-3 relatives houses. Thief has outstanding warrants, plus the 1 for this stolen car. Been over a year. Police have Never picked the Thief up!
i found out if you call the police say you found your stolen car and the POS in it and say they got 10 minutes to get there or your handling it they show up in 5 with backup

Yes, i have to admit that i have been extremely disappointed by the response, or lack thereof from law enforcement. I am convinced the only way i am ever going to see my trailer is if i can do it myself, and I admit i can't do it alone.

As I mentioned i do know where he lives, or at least I know where he has lived. I am thinking its going to have to be a situation where I pay him a visit with a few friends and we make him understand how important it is to return my trailer. I know we cant cross the line into physical contact legally, but I think we can get our point across. Do any of you have any advice on exactly how to go about that. Words of caution or past experience with this?

The few words of encouragement I have received did involve the situation where I find my trailer. Apparently at that point i can call the police and they will assist me in recovering it. They call it "keeping the peace"

I think your best bet is to place a lien on his stuff. Even once you get the trailer back to get back your lost money.

Does he own his own truck or lease it out? Possibly find his truck leasing company and tell them he is using a stolen trailer with their truck and it could be impounded if found with the trailer. I’d go talk to the State troopers at the weight stations and the ones that specialize in bigger trucks. Then go to all the wrecker yards he could be getting jobs from and anyone else that may want to use or hire him and fill them in what’s going on that the trailer is stollen and anything found on the trailer at the time will be held until back payment is payed in full. I’d stretch the truth some and try to put the squeeze on him from his pocket book

Have you knocked on his parents door and had a conversation?

I guarantee you the word would get back to him that you are looking for your stolen trailer.

“Hi Mrs Xxxx, do you happen to know how I can reach your son? It appears that he is unwilling to return my property. The last thing I want to do is call police on him, but my lawyer says I am out of options and feels we should file a police report to go ahead and sue him. I really don’t want to do that, can you see if he will call me?”

I’d bet his momma wouldn’t let that sit. I also bet ol’boy won’t be happy about you talking to his mom and may be motivated enough to reach out.

I would cancel the tag. First stop at a weigh station gets a ticket or impounded

Here we are all ready to get dirty and kick ass and such, and you gotta show up with logic!!! The NERVE!

That is a good idea though.

The plot thickens. I was able to locate the financier of his truck. I explained my situation and believe it or not they were exceptionally helpful. They called Devon Washington and told him that if He did not help me get my trailer back there we’re going to repossess his truck. Devon just called me swearing once again that he does not have my trailer but that he will do everything he can to help me get it back. Keep it coming we are making progress.

If he lost it while under contract than isn't he responsible for it?

I Just called central dispatch they were very helpful and cross-referenced accurate transportation all around trucking and kings and queens transport and all three are inactive at this time they also cross referenced his phone number and unfortunately it did not produce results. I am going to continue to try to get a business name and continue to use that as a reference because that was a great idea

May be worth looking into rewriting your lease agreement to include wording like "failure to make agreed upon payments for x months and/or disabling tracking equipment will be viewed as forfeiting your rights to possess or operate the trailer, if trailer is not surrendered within 5 business days after breach of contract the trailer will be considered stolen property and legal action can and will be taken". I'm sure someone smarter than I could church that up some to make it a legal document.

I’d get back up with them and ask them to give him a dead line. You’ve already got the pressure started squeeze again

Yes there will absolutely be a few revisions to our contract. That’s great advice i appreciate it.

Unfortunately there isn’t much I can accomplish over the weekend other than to plan for Monday. I agree that the parole officer may be the winning ticket in this case.

I am focusing on how to get Devon Washington to come to me.

The best option is to get information on his delivery schedule and intercept my trailer. In order to do that I need his business name and then get information on his schedule. The other way to do it is to get information on the ELD in the truck. I have not been able to do this yet. I do have a lead on a possible business name that I will research today. It’s Kinsmen logistics, MC 132965.

The next best option is to get Devon Washington to come to me. I think the best way to do this is to have his parole officer call him in for a meeting and then we talk to him. The next best option after that will probably be to get someone he knows to try to get him to meet.

The next best option is to go to him. I do have several addresses for him and I also know where his mom lives. I have spoken to his mother several times on the phone she seems like a good nice lady but isn’t in a big hurry to help me. Devon’s rap sheet is a mile long and so she is used to people looking for him. I think I could eventually get to him through her but it will be painful.

Through all of this I am sure he has gotten the word that I am looking for my trailer. My biggest fear is that he has either sold it, junked it or dumped it. That’s why I think if we can get to him in person I can at least find out who has it or where it is and then I can deal with Devon Washington.

If anybody has anything else that they think I should do I would love to hear it this is been very helpful and I do feel like we are making progress. When we get my trailer back taking everybody out for beers!!!!!!
