Random pic thread.

Looking through the forest towards the apartment houses in voronezh, Russia. Lots of trails through this forest.

Holstein, hefer or steer?
Dairy by product, easily aquired and raised to sell.

Steer which is why we got him cheap. They have established breeding stock so he was excess. Wrong kind of “milk” comin out of this one.
he will put on more weight, which is good.....I used to bottle feed 30 or so right off the dairy til they went to a dry lot and some pasture. One year in and sell. Buying in the winter also helps, but the mortality of bottle calves is higher. Mixing powdered milk a few times a day and mucking through a lot to the "calveTELS" and all the related can get nasty. Rain, sleet, or shine!

When I get my ducks in a row this will be a pursuit of mine. However I intend to produce a small herd of grass fed beef. Over an extended period of roughly two years will be my projected time frame for growing and selling. Year-round grazing works for North Carolina beef producer - Country Folks

A co-worker of mine raises grass fed beef and is making a killing down here in La. he is doing so well he is getting out of the Army earlier than expected and moving his operation back to family land in alabama. If you can get into the market you’ll clean up cause so many people don’t understand the difference between feed beef and grass beef. Surprisingly there are a lot of people who don’t like the taste though cause it is significantly different than your run of the mill feed lot beef.

Helped a friend raise one of those a couple of years ago, the meat was very tasty, not as much meat as other breeds but still a lot. It took 3 of us almost four days to process, ended up with almost 800lbs of meat.

That’s what we read too. Although not a “beef” cow. Its like @Loganwayne said, they are all beef on the inside. Depending on how big he gets we may try and sell a half and keep one for ourselves so we can have cheap beef in the freezer

Just don't let em get into the wild onions......most all are pinned and grain feed the last few weeks. If not your going to get a lot different meat. Another tip, don't slaughter a bull all worked up, your better off letting him do his thing. Pick a steer or make him one first and give him a rest.

It better not be because if I want to burger on Sunday I ain’t waitin! Not the best beef cow but for $30 I couldn’t say no.
Damn $30? WTH I need about 40-60 of those deals...

You could also train it to be an ox. We had some friends that had a team of them it was pretty cool and they made a small profit taking them to heritage shows.

Cast in key sheared off... Hmm. Drill a hole & add roll pin. Fixed!

Always buckle up for safety. I'd hate for one to slide off down in the floor and cause an accident because it was behind the brake pedal!

How much load is on that gear? You'd probably be better off using a solid pin or piece of a bolt with JB Weld or Loctite. The shear strength of that roll pin is approximately 2 nanonipples.

That had crossed my mind.. it was one of the hardened roll pins if that makes a difference.. it's only keying the crank pulley on (which is retained by a single bolt @ 70ftlb+40*)... it only protrudes .150" (so it's very short stick out)..

Here's to the cat who saved this house fire...cheers!
