"Gonna do it right...maybe!!??" Fuller's new XJ build!!!

So I went to mock up the rear Xj leafs I have and well people must be using YJ leaf packs cause no way Xj leaf pack in front will work using LCA mount and fit...they go like 6-7"past front where the mounts would be...anyone confirm that YJ leafs are just the right length people are using for this setup or other leafs that are shorter. I really don't want to redo rear leaf mount in front since it would have to be On bottom of frame rail sticking down real far

Well found the answer to this mythical axle lol...some guy on pirate4x4 was nice enough to put up link on all the info for those like me(crazy enough to use it lol)...
::Dana 44 shafts, 30 spline:

Short side inner axle: 18 1/4" from center of joint to end
Long side inner axle: 35 1/2" from center of joint to end

Outer stub alxes converted to 1978 chevy 19 spline outers and internal chevy hub, bearings and spindle.

Need balljoints, same as any Dana 44.

Need a diff cover? Same as any other 44.

High steer arms....same as any Dana 44. I needed a small spacer.

You will need to cut and turn the front axle. Stock the IH truck axles had little if any caster built into them UNDER AN IH TRUCK.

On MY Scout II with extended shackles they had 1 to 2 degrees. I cut and turned them for more.

ALL CHEVY BRAKE PARTS USED ARE FOR 1978 CHEVY 3/4 TON 4X4. IF I SAY BRAKE PARTS, FRONT OR REAR, ITS FOR A 1978 CHEVY 3/4 TON 4X4.

Rear D60 is also 30spline shafts...I guess

Pretty sure this is just a demonstration of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Guy wrote up everything someone would need on the 74-75IH harvested 200 truck with these d60/d44hd setup so pretty cool to have for time being

I believe yj length is 4" shorter than xj. So, if your shackle is going to make up the extra 2-3", should work.

Dunning–Kruger effect - Wikipedia

"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is."

Let me be clear, I'm not saying you're dumb. I'm simply observing that many people with many decades of knowledge and experience have given you guidance, and you have difficulty accepting it. But then you found that one page from pirate and it somehow has all the answers and all the knowledge you ever needed, and you're ready to march ahead with full confidence.

Yj leafs will be a little flatter than wagoneer ones.
some worn out wagoneer leafs will give you a slightly longer wheel base and work nicely though.

Thanks for spring help and it sounds like I should make the perches 38"?? @paradisePWoffrd u said any D60 would have this perch width. Seems to make sense if I'm going to redo both leaf mounts in front to accept Xj leafs than I should make them d60 width so just checking on that 38" length u gave me, thank you. I have several Xj leaf packs in really good shape and might as well use them...no cheap yj springs anywhere right now lo

No he didn't say that.
Super Duty 60 pad width is 38"
Chevy/Dodge/79 and older Ford 60 is 32"
Mid 80s-mid 90s Ford 60 is 36"

Using a SD 60 with such a wide spring pad width will cause interference with turning due to the tires hitting the leafs.

But what do I know...

Agreed, depending on wheel backspacing. But if you want to be able to bolt in leaf springs, you will need to make your frame mounts this width. Not sure how possible a 38" spring width is on your d44.

Unless I'm missing something here your front spring pad width is kind of a fixed option due to the spring pad being cast into the differential housing. Measure the spring pad width and viola you know where the mounts need to be on the Jeep.

What we're trying to say is you can't make your leaf spring hanger/mount/contraption fit an axle with 32" pad width (your IH housing) and also fit a different one with different pad width (i.e. the proposed SD D60)
Stick with what is best and do it once. Slow down, accumulate the proper parts to do it right. Once.

i would think about what your plans are.

If you are planning to use this axle until you can get a SD60, and youre going to stay leafs, go 38" and deal with the downside.

If you are going to stick with a d44 until you get another jeep, stay 32".

If you are going to convert back to coils at some point, get the hp44 above.

Ok got it guys, thank u.

Well got a little work done today..front cross member with shackle mounts welded in and got my 2x4cross member ready to be made with brackets for the rear. Those front hangers will be more braced/boxed in once all setup with shackles..
