Lawn and Landscape

Roger that. I am fertilizing today and will mow again tomorrow.
I understand it signals it to grow and the roots to develop.

Well the rain finally let up and I was able to get out and mow today. The back yard was still too wet so I'm gonna wait a few more days on it. I got a lil weed problem in the front, but it'll go away after the first good frost I hope.

I didn't do the ditch because I plan on doing some landscaping there. Some timbers and mulch or something...

Can anyone tell me what this is... This is my weed problem.

Your pic is huge! It looks like mature Chickweed and then beside it lks like something else I can't identify and then you may have some lingering Nutsedge which you can't kill right now. Regardless of what it is just get some broadleaf weed killer and spray and it'll get it. Weed B Gone in the hose end sprayer will take care of it or you can get the concentrate and mix it yourself. The main ingredient should be 2-4D. Wait until you've mowed it at least twice before spraying. Those are cool season weeds so frost will not knock them out. they'll grow all winter and crowd out your fescue.

Lol... Thanks, I did some googling after posting this and narrowed it down to either chickweed or creeping charliie. It came up after that first big rain we had and it's just been so wet since then I haven't been able to do anything about it. I have some ortho weed b gone that has 2-4-D and dicamba in it

Maybe I'll see if I an get something a lil better at the landscape supply

Ive had good luck keeping weeds under control with those Weed B Gone bottles that screw on to the end of a garden hose. You are supposed to wait 2-3 days after mowing before spraying. Also not supposed to use it over 90 deg or something. I sprayed it right after mowing one time in the middle of the summer. That did not work out too well, LOL.

Ive almost got some grass growing now around my house that is worth taking a picture of. I had good germination, but it is growing slower than i expected. I think it is because i put the seed down so late this year.

I was thinking Creeping Charlie too but it's pretty flat to the ground so I went with chickweed. Your Weed B Gone is fine. Mix in some dish soap like Dawn when you mix it up, it will help it stick to the leaves of the weeds.

Is there a certain reason I need to wait til after 3 mowings to spray or is that just to make sure the grass is mature enough?

I probably should have mowed it a week ago but couldn't because of the rain. Same with the back yard, it needs mowing but the ground is just too soggy. This should have been the second mowing.

Go to Amazon or a good landscape place and look into a product called Tenacity.
NOTHING works like this product, it is revolutionizing turf management.

In my back yard I'm following the posted plan for fescue drkelly mentioned above.

Anyone want to give me a plan on my front yard centipede?

Some weeds and small clover in with the grass. A lot of wild onion showing up this fall in it.

Last years grass was much better than this year, and I want to make sure I get it looking better next summer as well.

If someone can help with a plan for
The centipede I can start planning for it next spring.

My current idea aerate and over seed in March?

Between the weeds, onions, moles, and a mix of fescue/bermuda/centipede, I'm considering tilling our whole front yard under and starting from scratch in the spring.

Me too but considering a tractor trailer load of mulch instead of grass seed.... More time for wheeling!!!

Mac, the product Tenacity is what you need. It kills almost every weed including common wiregrass but does not affect turf bermuda and centipede. Don't use on Zoysia.

It turns some turf grass tips white but won't kill them, it turns weeds totally white and then they die.

It is around $70 for 8oz, but the mix rate is ridiculously low and 8oz should last a long time. It is a spring crabgrass pre and post killer too.

Weeds grow in mulch. Then you spend your Saturdays with the pump sprayer instead of on the mower.

Also, if you hadn't bought a ZTR, you'd have a free hand for beer drinking. As it is, you'll need one of these:

It's a 46".....I am offended...... :)

I don't use it on my front yard when everything is still so wet as it will spin on my ditch and tear up my baby grass.

I cut mine, my mom's and 3 yards in my neighborhood that belong to elderly folks who have a hard time doing it themselves.
I get up their leaves with my pull behind sweeper too.
The JD get's used a lot.

Its just got to be mature enough.

Not meaning to argue but I've not cared for Tenacity. It is listed to kill two and three tiller weeds but not mature. I may try it again and do some more research but I still have my original bottle that I used part of and didn't finish.
