I have a 98 XJ that is used by my mother in law as her DD. So taking off the doors is not an option...

I have had it in the shop three times because it keeps losing the charge in the AC. They put dye in all three times but can't find the leak. Now they think it may be the "box" (evaporator or something like that) behind the dash and that could be an 800 dollar bill to rip (ok take) the dashboard apart and put it back together.

Any ideas or anyone know of someone that could fix this for less than 800 bucks???

Thanks

Pulling the dash to replace the evap. is a labor-intensive process, so yeah, $800 sounds about right.

Yo,

Couple of things here...

If it ain't leaking on the outside...its inside where you can't see the dye
meaning the evaporator coil or line connections to same....sorry....

Get a second opinion from a shop that advertises AC work...

"Mine ain't got no AC so they will never see me" :D
