I wrapped 2 soda cans around the exhaust on my Toy pickup about, er, 2 years ago. I overlapped them and wrapped in metal tape. No problems.

Paint should be applied to hot welds so it bakes on...you know, like powder coating!

plus too, he forgot to grind down the weld smooth. Every buddy knows that smooth welds are stronger, even if you have to fill in the pockets with Bondo, that helps strength too!
