Put a trans back in my son's dd. Not a wheeler project but one thing closer to working on mine.

Home made transmission Jack adapter worked great.

Nothing real awesome but I finally knocked out a few punch list items over the last few days. Been putting these off a while.

Best place I could find to mount a fire extinguisher in reach in an XJ

I been wanting to get this CB put in for a while. I went back and forth on where to put it. Decided the dash was most accessible without being in the way.
Don’t mind that toggle switch hanging out, it’s temporary.

And I had these LEDs from Amazon sitting around for a while that I finally mounted. Flush mounts in the rear, 12” up front. I got real ghetto with the front using hose clamps because it was too short for my fairlead tabs. Oh well. They are all insanely bright!
Also mounted the CB antenna on my front bumper.

A few weeks ago my transmission started making some bad noises. Since I had a rebuilt transmission installed a year ago at a shop in Fayetteville I didn’t want to pay the money to have another reman installed. Talking to a good friend of mine who owns a shop, we dicided to do our own rebuild. I bought a rebuild kit and drove two hours this morning. I had the AX5 out and broken down in a few hours to find this garbage! Not sure what went wrong but I feel the weld job may be part of the problem. I’m pissed.

"Hey bubba, did you see where that snap ring flew off at?"
"Naw"
"Ok, I'm just gonna put a little weld on it."

Drove to Barnes and picked up new u bolts and plates.

Got home and in the rain...

did a bunch of grinding on welds to make them fit on the clocked fzj80 rear. Those axles are Toyota beef, but have miles of brackets and trusses that make fitting u bolts a task of surgical importance.

I'll bolt them up over the weekend and finish plumbing the brakes hopefully.

But I have to upgrade the master cyclinder first.

The past two weeks UPNOVERII has got some much needed upgrades and repairs.

First, was the broke axles and U-Joints. Thanks to ECGS, I not have Chromo's inner and outer, on both sides of my 60., as well as Yukon Super joints and full circle clips. I have seen a few stock knuckles break in the past few years, so I bit the bullet and put some Reid Racing knuckles into the mix as well. While I was at it, I warrantied my front BDS springs, drilled them out to 3/8 center bolts bolts (they come with 5/16's bolts) New grade 8 bolts too, as well as new bushings. . Big thanks to @jeconn While doing this, we found the holes for the spring hangers were really elongated, and there was a crack in one of the welds. Took it down to @ol'Jeeps. Replaced the spring hangers with some heavier duty ones. While there, the cooler tray on the back seems to be a magnet for my friends to crash into, so the dented piece was cut off and looks good as new. From there, I went my Carolina drive train, and got three new U-Bolts to hold the 60 to the springs.

Back up a couple days. After wheeling with @mcutler and @jeconn @ AOP I was even sold more on stickies. So a call to Goforth Tire, over in TN, and I had a new set delivered to K&M tire in Hickory. Since we were going to replace the tires, I tried to clean up and repaint the bead locks. Grinding, beating out dents, and paint. They look a little better. When I built them, I used 1/2 flat bar for anti-coning rings. I should have used 3/4". So the insides were coned a good bit. Cleaned up all 96 nuts and bolts, and with the help through all of it from my son @josh$$ we got them cleaned up and mounted.
My son, who is scheduled for shoulder surgery in August, never complained a bit. The next day though, when I brought his truck back to him, he had his arm in a sling. Talk about making a dad feel bad, I did! The vets are one tough group of guys!

So, New Stickies, axles, super joints, Reid knuckles, bolts, U-bolts, bushings, spring hangers, and repair on my cooler rack, This old Jeep has gotten a lot of attention this past week.

Doint the tires was done at my son's house. Since his garage was taken up by @Jason W. Jeep(waiting on some drive shaft repair, we went with the next best garage floor. My trailer. And yes, it was tied down, front and rear and was ISO and OSHA approved!:flipoff2:

I got a little horny today!

The horn in my HD had quit working a few weeks ago, but it was still working when I locked the doors. I knew they still worked, so it had to be something in the horn button. Apparently it's common amongst Silverado/Sierra trucks from 99-07. After a quick internet video and a few minutes of time, I had it working again. Now when I'm hauling my trailer loaded down with equipment I can properly display how pissed off I am when people pull out in front of me, drive 100 yards, stop, and turn left...and there's not a soul in sight behind me.

Rattle canned some color on the wheels and finished mounting the tires I got from my neighbor.

So even if it doesn't run, it'll roll? :)

A couple days ago I swapped out the CPS on my Cherokee.

Pretty sure the flexibility required just qualified me for the Cirque de Soliel. Time to order my speedo and glitter eye makeup.

Also found this:

I think my exhaust manifold cracked a little. Surprisingly, it's not very loud for being such a bad break.

Once I replace the starter in my Wrangler and get that going, I'll tear this apart. Having two jeeps broken at the same time suckiths when you have to drive your wife's minivan.

Hahah pretty much. Technically she's a runner....just needs the driveshaft shortened and brakes/clutch bled. Looking forward to the day it will move under its own power, cause it's a heavy beast and even with a good set of tires, it's everything I've got to roll it in and out.

Just advertise your garage as Crossfit of John Islands.....pretty sure people would pay good money to push that thing in out of your garage for ya. Probably could even get them to push you down the road and back for the real hard core ones...:driver:

Worked on the SCTJ and mine a bit last night, back at it today. Go the motobilt backhalf in the blue one, and got my boatsides, highlines and rear armor on mine. Now to grind to the line and smooth out this plasma cut.

Today's agenda is to get the rear links and coilovers set on the blue jeep, then start laying out the frame on mine.
