The Work Travel Thread

It’s good to be back home for a few days. The night before I left, I went out for sushi with my local reps and one of them pointed out an area ‘where rich people go’ called Ginza. The weather was good and I had a few hours to kill (sounds way better than sitting in my hotel room working) so I took a short train ride and walked this area. It turned out to be the 5th Ave of Tokyo. All the famous clothing and jewelry brand names and whatnot. I did stumble upon this small showroom of Nissan concept cars, which was pretty awesome. And ate some good spicy curry.

That night I saw the Mario karts zooming through town. I’m definitely doing this next time. They flew by before I could get a picture, but it looked fun! Gotta remember to get my international drivers license.

The flight back was uneventful. I had an older all aisle access seat in business class, so can’t complain about that.

Off to Mexico City on Tuesday and then Bogota on Thursday. There will probably be no fun next week. It’s going to be back-to-back flights and meetings.

Right after the last time I was there, they were getting in a lot of trouble for the trademark or something I think, I guess they got that resolved.

Michigan to The Soo, Canada this week. That bridge was a beast. I had some time to site see on the way back South. Cool area. I won’t go back until spring if I can help it.

Washington/Oregon last week. Took a detour on 101. Sunset (almost but no time to wait) over the pacific on 9/11 with the flag at half-staff. I’d. Ever been to the Pacific before. Box checked. Beautiful scenery.

If you flew directly over Keystone/Breck/Copper like that, you also flew directly over Arapahoe Basin right before that (if that was the East-->West flight path). It would have been just out the other side of the plane, or maybe below the plane when you were over Keystone.
My favorite ski area of my '90s ski bum days when I lived out there. Cheap and amazing, with some nasty stuff up high. Work 4/10s, ski 2 days, relax one day. Or ski 3 days if the powder was really good. That's not affordable anymore, with the ridiculous lift ticket prices. A 3-mountain seasons pass (was it Breck/Copper/A-Basin?) was like $150-$200 or something silly like that. That's like a 2 day pass at Copper now.

Nailed it. Loveland and ABasin were right under the plane basically. I used to put 80-100 days on snow between NC and NH/VT in my ski bum days. Without the industry hookups on tickets I have only skied once in 5 years and that was at Loveland. Its actually most cost effective, I wont even say cheap, to buy something like the Epic Pass or any other multi mountain pass and plan the trips around that. I used to sell the shit out of the Epic Pass at the last shop I was at just before getting out of the industry all together. I miss pro forms but dont miss working for peanuts.

I didn't work at a ski shop, I just skied a lot. I was working in Denver and living in Evergreen at the time, building robotics and assembly machinery.

On the way home from Chengdu, China. Pretty cool city. Seems a little more laid back than the east coast cities I have been to. Weather is about like Seattle, always cloudy/rainy with a little bonus smog thrown in.

postponed to early next year...:shaking:

Consider yourself lucky. My boss flew into Hong Kong and its a complete shit show over there. He took the bus from the airport to his hotel. He missed the earlier bus, which was lucky because it was attacked by the protestors. This is what he saw when his bus passed it 2 hours later...

On my way home from São Paulo, Brazil. First impression is that this is a massive city with a massive traffic problem. The motorcyclists are crazier than the ones in Columbia and you have to contend with multi-link buses that are at least 80’ long.

Traffic aside, the people seem pretty friendly and there are lots of cool things to see in the more affluent areas. I had some real Brazilian steakhouse for lunch (sorry no pic) and it was every bit as good as imagined. AND none of that filler food they try to get you with at the Brazilian steakhouses in the US. No pasta or rice here! BRING THE MEATS!

The less-affluent areas are sketch AF with ridiculous amounts of graffiti and dozens of people living under bridges in makeshift tents. I saw a guy taking a dump on the sidewalk in plain view of everyone.

I mostly failed on picture-taking, but here’s what I got:

Saw this at the airport
