First mod completed today. Swapped the CB over from DoubleMint. I also ordered a Maximus winch mount to swap the winch over next.

A JK build thread...sorry sir those are reserved for Pinterest and Instagram stories :flipoff2:

At least I clearly labeled it! Then I put in “bought not built” as the first sentence to scare away all the hardcore folks. :flipoff2:

Maybe I should have done like @BigClay and started a thread in the Truck Gallery section instead. :p

I didn’t want to drill any holes in this dash just yet, so I ordered this cooltech cb mic mount.

Also got started on the winch installation. I went with this Maximus 3 winch mount because of all the positive reviews online and the fact that it works with the factory bumper.

I was not very impressed with this mount. First strike - no installation instructions. Not even on their website. I found an unaffiliated YouTube video that detailed the installation pretty well and went by that. Second strike, the mount is about a sixteenth of an inch too wide. I had to pry and beat this thing into place using a massive crow bar and dead blow hammer. Third strike - the forward facing frame holes didn’t line up. I had to grind them out to get the bumper back on. Fourth strike? - the powder coating cracked and started flaking off on the fairlead plate before I even got it bolted on. At the end of the day, it’s going to work fine, but installation was much more difficult than necessary.

There are more mods coming.

Potts was a lot of fun and, despite the damage, I really enjoyed the weekend. As @Jason W. and @josh$$ predicted, the tie rod and steering stabilizer were the first victims. Shortly thereafter, the PS bumper stanchion folded in a couple of inches. I got an education on the JK electronic stability system and we straightened the steering wheel out good enough to get home.

A couple items of concern: On the highway ride back, the transmission would sometimes downshift from 5th to 2nd and I’d instantly lose 15mph before I could get it to shift back up a couple of gears. This made for a dangerous situation on a couple of occasions and I’m lucky to have not been rear ended. I’m hoping this is related to the stability control thing and will correct itself once I get the steering fixed. My second theory is that it could be a similar calibration issue caused by the oversized tires. Although I didn’t have the issue previously (?). Maybe getting the control points reprogrammed via an AEV Procal will help with this (thanks again @josh$$ for the lead).

Secondly, I may have bent the front axle housing or Cs. My DS tire has 2-3 degrees more camber than the passenger side now. Will have to do some more checking with an angle finder to confirm.

Enough text, here are some pictures:

I am being hopelessly optimistic :D. I did have plans to strengthen up this housing, but thought it would survive one ride at least :shaking:. Wifey was less than thrilled when she caught me looking at the Dynatrac website this morning...

Oh Lawd, that front axle is toast, c,s are probably bent, there is no fixing it.

There are many options out there for just a housing, dynatrac, teraflex, east coast gear supply, G2 etc...

You will need the diff shafts and knuckles swapped over. This is what happens on a heavy 4dr hitting that ledge at the stacks hard;), you got it just right,, or uh wrong!

I hate it for ya man, wish the front axle would have been armored first and it wouldnt have happend. This is why I am so ocd on armoring the front jk axles, especially on heavy 4 drs.

Something like this.

Your steering is likely still off and with the tie rod bent the computer isnt happy, definetly need an Aev procal to correct your shift points

Thanks dude. Any sane person probably would have backed off and saved it for another day. There might be something wrong with me.
