T-18 Shifter troubles

Ford version of the T18 trans, the shifter is so sloppy it feels like it's coming out of the trans. Can't find 1st and have to hunt for 2,3 and 4. Anyone had this happen before? Fix?

Take the top off and rebuild the shifter. Mine is a CJ T18, but I'll bet they're the same. Some of the detent springs in mine were broken and it shifted like crap. I had to estimate the lenghts and srping rates etc, and just bought some springs from a spring supply co...couldnt find an automotive source for 'official' T18 parts. After that the shifter felt way better.
Exploded views of the tranny can be found somewhere on the net. Sorry, all my bookmarks for this are MIA on my old computer.

That would be great to find it's only detent springs etc. This look like it?

yep, that's about what mine looked like. The fork bushings were shot on mine, but I couldnt find replacements. Seems fine without.
