Old School Hardcore - YJ SOA HP44 Build

looking good. why not bring the outer overhead bars to the corners of the cage? i know it would be more work, but would make the whole design stronger.

Thanks! Main reason I didn't angle it to the very corner was due to head room and looks. If I angled it over farther it would have angled downward based on the look I was going for and it would have been in the way of your head when getting in and out of the jeep. I will look at it and possibly add a corner gusset piece of tube to attach to the corner. Thanks for the input and idea.

So I took a break from building my roll cage this weekend to build my dad some bar stools for Christmas to go in his shop/man cave. I even got to use my dimple dies. :D

I've been trying to work on my MIG welds some more.

Been working on my cage some more. Finally got to lay some welds on the majority of it last weekend. I'll pull the cage out of the Jeep and finish welding it, then off to powder coating. Onto some photos...

One of the things on my list for my new cage was a mounting point for my hi-lift jack. I'm tired of it banging around in the back.

Me and a buddy just built our first cage. Our main hoop was off 1/4 inch and that made it a pain everywhere else but we pulled it off. I really like your cage, and those are some real good looking welds!

Thank you so much! It's amazing how much you learn from cage to cage. I learned a ton from my first cage and I have been taking my time on this one so I'm happy with it for the long haul. I'm already planning a cage for my buddy's TJ too!

Good looking cage and great welds

Thanks man!

Busy Saturday in my garage. My buddy Mitch came over and hung out and helped out. I got the remaining portion of the roll cage welded up and ready for powder coat. I took it to the powder coater this morning. I'm using one in Charlotte, NC called Hot Box Powdercoating. Guys are super nice and I'm hopeful it will turn out really nice. Onto some photos...

Hey Brett! Thanks man! I really appreciate it. I'm still easy on this thing too. It sure does drive and ride nice though and I try to keep it nice. Have you seen my Mail Jeep build? It's the fun one that I actually 4 wheel. :D

I'll definitely tell my bro. I was reading this post thinking...did I put photos of this thing up from high school era?! Haha!

Yea man i have seen the mail jeep bad ass. I sold my tj a few years back and bought a 05 lj and it is a street queen too haha. But that is about to change since I am about to buy a 2015 cummins. It will actually see some ure time this year.Man you do awesome work you should open up a shop.

Thanks Brett! I liked your old TJ. I have thought about opening a shop more times than not. I build stuff for friends as of now. I built my buddy, Mitch's TJ, for the most part. I'm doing some fab work on my other buddy's Choptop XJ now also. I would be happy to help you cut up your LJ if you want. The bumpers I built for my Buddy's TJ were simple and clean. I could build you a set. :D

Let me know when you head out to URE. I try to get out there several times during the year.

I built a front bumper for my YJ over the weekend. I sold the Warn bumper that I've had on it for years. Out with the old! In with the new custom fab!

I integrated a winch plate into it and covered the grill bottom with a metal lip that I welded on as well. Clean and "simple"!

Total suspension, roll cage, interior and axle rebuild underway. My wife and I had twins 14mo ago and my mail jeep isn't going to work for a family wheeler so here we go!

Hoping for a 100" wheelbase and a similar look and stance to Poison Spyders' old YJ Papa Smurf.

Poison spyder defender front & rear fenders

Genright stretch tank & legend 3-link front and 4-link rear, Currie Johnny Joints, etc

Poison spyder shock towers

12" Fox Coilovers

Rear axle: Junkyard custom built rear dana 60, semi float, approx ~66wms, 5.13 gears, custom built truss, 35 spline shafts and Yukon Grizzly locker

Front axle: *Planning for* ECGS Ultimate 60 w/ Kingpin outers, snofighter 60 WMS (69.5"), 5.13 gears, custom built truss, 35 spline shafts and Detroit locker

Before (with PSC front flares installed). This shows the roll cage I just finished and the new seats and interior as well. Again, family friendly!
