Stopped by T&W yesterday and had them price me a buggy hauler style bumper pull trailer.
18’ + 2’ dovetail. With two 7k axles. I want to be 8 lug to match another trailer.
My original thoughts are to go with a 5 ton frame ie 5” channel instead of the 7 ton 6” channel.
Main thing it will hall is my CJ ~ 5k lbs and occasionally a small skid steer ~6k lbs. I want the ability to haul a 1 ton truck if need be, but not regularly.
Should I go for the 6” channel or be ok with the 5” channel? Both would have a stacked doubled up tongue extending to the first axle mount. Weight savings is my thought for the 5” vs 6” and it’s not going to be loaded down every day hauling something for a living.
Thanks for the opinions.

5" should be fine. Giggity :D

My trailer is rated for 16k with 6" channel and 8k axles with 17.5" tires, so you should be fine.

If its got 7k axles .Might as well do the frame too .If you go to sell in the future the heavier frame markets better .In my opinion
