Secondhand Tin Can.

I finally got the rockers done. I also did a close once over of the entire jeep.

Had a pretty good shakedown run. Found a few things I need to adjust and add. First of which was bump stops and limit straps to help keep me from loosing coil springs. I'm also going to go up another inch in the front to level the jeep out. This will also get a little more shock exposed in order to get a softer drop down.

Hopefully within the next week everything will be in so I can measure for limit straps.

Next round is going to be hood louvers and wiring the electric fan on a switch. The jeeps running temp is fine. It just builds up a ton of heat under the hood.

I got the coils in and the top bump stops. Then I measured for the hockey pucks and for the limit straps. Got one side set of tabs welded in. Next is re-assemble this side. Then move on to the other side.

Well I forgot to just tack the first one I did then check for clearance issues. Well I had to cut the tab off then weld another one to the plate. Both sides are done except for hockey pucks but those are going to get slid through the coils.

Well I got the tires on the jeep sitting under its own weight. I'm trying to figure out which link I need to adjust to get my spring sitting right. One side looks about right but the other is off a little.

I am running a radius arm setup. I'm thinking my main link is too short and pulling the axel back. Any help would be appreciated.

I got my wiring stuff in today. Got my fan wired to a switch. Fixed my light bar and cb wiring then wired them to switches.

I was going to tell you that there is a purple and pink wire in the harness on the drivers side fender under the hood. If you ground that wire, it feels the fan relay to come on. So hooking it to a switch that grounds it means you can turn it on whenever you want, but when off it functions normal.

There are other ways to do it and I’m sure yours worked out, this is just the easiest way I have found.

I ended up using the way that involved a relay. I also used blade connectors into the fan harness so I can unplug the two wires from the relay and plug the old wire back together just incase.

Well i spent way to much time stumped at why axel was square but the spring wasn't sitting right. I forgot to make sure the spring was sitting correctly in the top perch. Got the pucks in now just waiting to go get bolts to secure them.

Well potts was a great trip. It claimed a drive shaft u joint and was the nail in the coffin for my steering box I got from the corner jeep.

I took this opportunity of installing another steering box to add a cooler.

I have also decide to call my jeep the secondhand tin can.

Awesome! We have super similar builds. Glad to see this thing getting wheeled!!

Thanks man. Next step is a cage, seats and harnesses.

Then I need to fab some skid plates since I can not find any that will work with the long arms.

@Keith1138 I'm in the same boat. Looking at the pre-fabbed “hybrid XJ” cage that has an exterior halo and interior upright pillars. It’s funny how far a beater XJ can get at Kairos and whatnot; shows how important the safety really is when you can get yourself into some hairy situations

Yeah thats the style I'm planning. You just never know. A rock could slide out from underneath a tire and next thing you know you are one your roof. The halo helps to keep trees off the body also.

After I almost ripped my cb antenna off a few times I relocated it to my front bumper instead of near the rear tail light. I was able to get channel 1 tuned to 1.5 but I couldn't get 40 any lower than 3 without dropping channel 1 to below 1.

First picture is where it is now the second is the old location.

I used that same cooler in the same place for my steering. It doesn't seem to do much for cooling

I'm hoping with the holes in my bumper it will get some air flow to help it out l.

Before my last wheeling trip I got the cooler in and the steering box. I also fixed the rear drive shaft that decided to spit a cap.

Next up is cross over steering with a raised track bar bracket. I also ordered rear frame stifferners to take care of the old bumpstops. I bought a hybrid cage. I got the halo and the b pillar painted. I am going to have to make a c pillar with kick downs to the d pillars.

I got everything in with the help from some friends and their shop. The jeep drives so much better on the road with the new steering and track bar.

The cage I ended up doing a slightly angled c pillar to my wheel well since there wasn't anywhere to easily do sandwich plates for the d pillar kick downs.

Next up is going to be seats and harnesses since my driver seat wobbles and has already had washers welded to the bottom once.

Did you order a cage kit or bend that yourself?
