axle wrap bumpstops

I was crawling under my donor YJ, and noticed it had some bumpstops about 8" behind the main eye of the rear leaf spring, in addition to the normal bumpstops at the axle centerline. Are these there to prevent axlewrap, or what? Pretty cool, I wish my ECORS XJ had had something like that at the Flats race.
