Earlier tonight I was in the throne room reading Petersen's, and they did a write up of how to build a beefy 9". Anyway, I'm curious as to how the axle shafts are held in place. They're not full-floaters, are they?

The wheel bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft, and is then retained with a c-clip at the bearing, but it's the press-fit that does most of the work... at least on a Yota..

You forgot to mention that there's a retainer plate that goes on the shaft before the bearing that gets bolted to the end of the housing, holding the shaft in place via the press-fit bearing.
