Events
On Saturday, October 8, the Central Volunteer Fire Department in Harmony, NC, is having a Mud Bog. Off Hwy 901 and Eagles Mill Road, only 1 mile from I-77. Registration starts at 1pm and the entry fee is $20. Winner based on time or distance. The show starts at 3pm. Adults are $8, kids under 12 are free. Bring your own chairs but please leave the alcohol at home.

The Carolina Trail Blazers are headed to Mountain City, TN, to Callalantee this coming Saturday. Since some could not make the Dixie Run last weekend, a few folks will meet in the campground/parking lot around 9:30am and hopefully be on the trails by 10am. It should be a fine fall day on the trails. Our best information is that the park will come under new management as of November 1 and the future is uncertain.

The 6th Annual Uwharrie Mountain Festival is this Saturday, October 8. The festival is held in the Uwharrie National Forest, near the Eldorado community of Montgomery County, NC. Activities take place at King's Mountain Point in the Badin Recreation Area and at the Eldorado Outpost. Enjoy a beautiful trail run, paddling, paintball, woodsmen demonstrations, disc golf, orienteering, music in the mountains, nature walks, and pottery demonstrations. Admission is FREE.

This weekend features not one, not two but three 4x4Cross events. The Big Lick 300 NTPA Tractor Pull on October 7 & 8, the Charlotte Diesel Supershow & Diesel Truck Drag Race on October 7 & 8 and Twitty's Mud Bog on Saturday, October 8, 2011.

The next Friends of Uwharrie Trail Workday is October 15. Only three more workdays to get as much done as possible until the January break. If the funds come together to rent a Bobcat, the last part of the to-do work load created back in May (plus maybe some extra projects) should be doable. $250 is needed to make this a reality. Meet for breakfast at the Eldorado Outpost at 8am, meet at Hunt Camp by 9am for assigning work to groups. Break for lunch at about 1:30pm and wrap up work by approximately 3:30pm.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Lenoir-Rhyne College will be October 15. Go out and support the Big Dixie Boobies in their third year or donate to their cause!

The Fall Crawl at Harlan is the weekend of Oct 22. Open all day, all hear 'round, with 150 miles of marked and rated trails in beautiful country, this is an event not to be missed!

The Big Dixie Boggers are hosting the Fall Rock Harvest at The Farm on October 28, 29 & 30. This is an open event for anyone that wants to come out and it is always a good time! The fun starts Friday at 3pm and entry is $10 per person for a 3-day pass, plus $10 per rig. Kids under 12 are free and there will be Trick or Treating starting at dusk on Friday.

November Events
The ECORS
This will be a true endurance race to test drivers, cars, and teams to their limit. Teams will experience wide open spaces, hill climbs, tight winding trails, tree-dodging and rocks, not to mention their competitors, on the course! The course will cover trails outside of the normal Windrock Park OHV area, opening up previously closed land to the racers. Teams will have the opportunity to pre-run the course starting Wednesday, November 2. ECORS highly suggests coming out as early as possible to get as much pre-running in as possible since these trails are normally closed to the public! Teams should expect to be on site in Oliver Springs, TN, by Thursday, Nov. 3, for a full day of pre-running. Last Chance Qualifier is Friday morning, November 4 and the main races are Saturday, November 5!

To honor all of our heroes, those serving, those retired and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, there will be a Veterans' Day Commemorative Ride at Uwharrie National Forest, November 11-13. Camping is available both nights at the Art Lilley Campground and parking lot. There will be a group going to dinner Friday night and there will be a group photo taken on Saturday. Saturday's dinner will be served by everyone's favorite Hot Dog Guy!

Grant applications and all supporting material for the Tread Lightly! Stewardship Grant Program are due by 8am Mountain Time, Thursday November 24th, 2011. The maximum grant amount is $500, and those funds can be used to rent equipment or purchase supplies like garbage bags, water, or snacks for volunteers, etc. Projects can start anytime after December 1, 2011. For this grant cycle, all projects or events must be completed and final reports submitted by April 30, 2012.
