What is included in a Z71 package over just a standard 4x4 . I just bought my son a 2001 Z71 and was curious what option it has other than the stickers on the rear quarters

Tires and shocks mostly. Driving lights in the lower front valaince, G80 locking rear diff (aka Timex locker),
The tires were a slightly more aggresive tread All Terrain, and the shocks were over priced Bilstien. and a Skid plate package

The interior trim was either LS or LT, (badge on "B" pillar") LS being cloth seats, base radio( several options to this) dash cluster had fewer gauges. 4x4 actuation was dependant on trim level, push button selection, on both trim levels LS and LT, LT having the "autoride" option offering selectable automatic full time 4x4, VS 2hi .4hi amd 4lo

LT was leather, full gauge package, Uplevel stereo package, better HVAC controls. most likely to have power windows and locks, XM option, OnStar,

The Work truck (WT) 4x4 were vinyl seats, usually no carpet but a rubber mat, inner door panels were plastic, no power windows, 4x4 as floor mounted stick.

There are caveats and exceptions to any and all of this, Dealers make changes to the trucks at the dealership which really confuses things.

Ricky, you sap, you forgot the badassness! Junkman it's also got the badassness.

I remember a test from something like Motor Trend, and the towing package equipped truck did better on their "offroad" portion than the Z71 equipped truck, because the shocks were too stiff or something like that..

Kinda of a peeve that people seem to think the trim package is the truck.. It's not "A Z71", it's a Chevy 1500.
You don't hear people saying "I have a 2001 Dodge Sport" because it has the big "Sport" sticker on the rear quarter panel..
Ford guys don't say "I have a 2001 Ford FX4" because their F-150 has the FX4 package...

Kinda like the brothers who ride "a SRAD" :shaking:

try working in the parts business and mentioning that it really doesn't matter that it's a "Z71" or "FX4" when purchasing something as simple as spark plugs...some of these asshats get offended:rolleyes:

The sad thing is that 99.9% of the parts they buy for them are the same on the other trucks. I get annoyed *going* to the auto parts store and asking for parts. The guy at the counter will ask me all these questions about engines, drivetrain, etc, and get offended when I tell them that it doesn't matter they are all the same regardless.

Z71 is a gimmick package, a sales tool, a "status" thing. The skids are flimsy, the shocks aren't much better, the sticker doesn't add any horsepower, and the G80 Gov-bomb Eaton locker comes on damn near half of the GM trucks that leave the showroom floor anyway. My dad's little 99 ex cab 2wd has one. The Z71 doesn't sit any higher than a normal 4x4, go look at one. Hell I noticed that the Colorados now have a "Z71" package. I see people with Toyotas putting Z71 sitckers on their trucks for God's sake. What's the deal?

At least the Ford FX4 package actually made the truck a LOT taller. The Dodge Off-Road package that they offered on the last bodystyle lifted the truck a lot more too.

and the best part is, some of those Z71 Colorados are 2WHEEL DRIVE , no transfer case, no front drive.

Much like the TRD 4dr Tacomas and the Pre Runner package, though those actually have a true locking diff ( yeah I know only locked below 5mph if ya push the button, but that can be worked around)

I want ya'll to know I did'nt buy it for the Z71 package , I bought it for the price, $8500 and only 100,000 miles ,extended cab 4 door .Truck looks great.

Thats a steal with the way those thing sell.

On a side note Chevy makes 2wd Z71s now. My boss bought a new body style 2007 Silverado Z71 4x2. Apparently now the beloved decal says 4x4 in small with Z71 when they are 4WD.

i thought that the Z85 package was the 2wd version of the Z71?

has anyone seen the Z99 package before? Ive seen a few of them, but have no clue what they claim is better with it...

More badassness!
