22re oil pressure

DON'T trust the factory gauge, they all read low.

7-10 psi hot idle is spec if I remember right, I'd have to look it up again.

anything above 15 is bonus.

use a wet gauge to verify factory reading, factory gauges notriously read low, my '85 would hardly come off the first mark at idle, my '90 isn't much better.

used wet gauge, both running 18-20ish hit idle. both with over 100k on 'em ( '90 has 180k)

I put and after market guage on it to day from NAPA and the way it reads is 0 then three slash marks then 25 then the rest is four slash marks then 50 four slash marks 75 etc after the motor was warm the gauge read in between the first slash mark and second from 0 I'm not sure how it is suppost to read since there are 3 slash marks between 0 and 25 and 4 slash marks from there on out which is equal to 5. Anyway at 3000 rpms it read around 50; do you think that the pressure is ok all around
 
yep, you are fine

, if there are no knocking noises AFTER the engine is at operating temp, and the guage still reads like that, you are good.

for info, when cold, a 22RE may have a slight to moderate knock due to piston slap, well documented and not usually an issue. mine has 180k on original bottom end, it's quite talkitive when the temps are freezing.

I hope so; it worried me cause on the new gauge when it was warm it is barly reading any pressure above 0; like I told you before; but if 6 to 10 is good at and idle then hopfully I'll be ok. I just bought this rig and I'm tring to go through everything before I take it on the trail. Plus I think I will go up to 40w oil; so do you think it's ok
 
honestly, you got a cheap gauge, it works, and shows you have pressure, which, is a plus,


pressure isn't really "needed" as long as you have volume or flow. pressure is pretty much the only semi accurate way to measure oil flow in an engine.

When is the last time you saw an oil pump sold as " High pressure" as opposed to " high volume "

I see what you are saying; but do you think I am ok with as far as the motor and oil pressure goes?
 
Drive it, if it's gonna puke, you'll know it.

do the basic maint needs, oil change, valve adjustment, plugs, wires, cap rotor, getting running as best you know how.

I ran 20w50 in my junk when I was wheeling, I wasn't nice to it, it needed the cushion.

If it frag's , you have an upgrade oppertunity, that's a good thing !

Drive it like you stole it !
 
I'd say that oil pressure is fine, both at idle and running down the road. If you think it might be a little low at idle, put a quart of Lucas Oil Stablizer in it. My buddy's Ford F150 had a hell of an oil pressure problem at idle when warm. It would drop like a rock and the light would come on. We put a quart of Lucas in it at the last oil change and the problem was solved. (Well not the problem per say but the light stays off now.)

I'd also think that each line on your guage is about 7-8 psi or so, (by dividing the three lines into the first numerical value of 25.)
 
I put and new oil pump in it and the pressure improved; whether the oil pressure before was ok or not I don't know but the old oil pump showed showed wear. Anyway it costed about $100 bucks but now I feel better about the pressure. Thanks for all the input.
