Gone Postal : Mail Jeep Build

One more. Here is the other wall that isn't pictured above. I added the 4th garage door on the side. Best decision ever!

Did a few things to my postal before the first URE trip of the year. I cut the old bump stop mounts off and I made some new ones.

I did add some LED light pods for my reverse lights. They are stupid bright so I should probably build a mount to angle them downward so they don't blind anyone behind me on the trail.

My rear driveshaft blew on my ride home. I think I am in need of some changes for my rear axle. I'm thinking of swapping to a Dana 60 rear for a not-so-dramatic rear driveshaft angle.

AND the BIG news! I'm painting my postal. Here is some prep work...

Man that's a nice lj in the background haha. Any updates?

Thanks Brett! Yes, that is a very nice LJ in my garage! The postal is primed and the color will be laid on it this weekend. I'll post up a teaser shot once I get some photos of it over the weekend. :smokin:

Alright guys! Here we go. Photos of the whole paint process. I have been waiting to post up photos till the whole process was done. I will give info on the materials and components I used if you want to know more. I couldn't be happier. I hope you enjoy the finished product!

Initial paint supplies!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2451_zpsj6mmqzl8.jpg

Rust repair needed in numerous spots. I opened up the areas more so I could be sure to replace the rotten material and have solid metal to weld to. Some of the areas were extremely thin around the roof/windshield and side door overhead openings.

ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2496_zpswoxzsqej.jpg

Sanded the body and hood/grille/tailgate and filled holes where needed so all the lines were smooth.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2498_zpsvpkvmest.jpg

Repairs made.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2523_zpska1yt9uj.jpg

Primer.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2527_zpspm9pzfoo.jpg

I custom designed a new logo for the tailgate and my buddy, Mitch, got it cut out for me.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2551_zpsmdbcpdoo.jpg

For the decal, I did an inverted layout so I could lay down the white paint first for the logo background, then put the decal on, and paint the detail colors in the middle. Time consuming, but well worth the extra time so the decal is painted and clear coated into the jeep paint. Extra pimp hat needed!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2561_zpsmcw4bpnm.jpg

Initial fresh blue color.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2564_zps8p7f0d58.jpg

Decal painted! And "EOF" is my logo for anything I build (Edmonson Offroad Fab). Having a logo elevates your fab/skill level, right?! Haha!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2566_zpsilngktba.jpg

Fresh blue.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2569_zpsv6oeuetv.jpg

The blue was so fresh, I sanded all the color off of the parts and body. I wanted an older "patina'd" look so I wanted it to not look new. This was all prepped and ready for clear coat.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2570_zpsd1jdcfwb.jpg

Body armor also sanded and prepped for fresh black paint.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2581_zpsllix7uox.jpg

And voila!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2603_zpskkf20phr.jpg

Once the paint was done, I taped it all off and sprayed LizardSkin on the interior to help with heat on the floorboards and the transmission tunnel.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2608_zps9exoj8ty.jpg

And again, thinking of keeping the original look and feel, I custom mixed my own color of Lizardskin using their white and black base material. I wanted a primer grey look. Finished product.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2611_zpsceeo0ql6.jpg

I even mixed two colors so the transmission tunnel could be two-toned!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2615_zpsew8kfgo1.jpg

My logo again. I used to have a Ballistic Fab skull here but I figured my logo was more fitting since it's all scratch built.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2620_zpsuzbqubiv.jpg

Front end painted and put back together.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2623_zpslrcr8hdu.jpg

Ready for URE.

ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2640_zpsanil7ett.jpg

I got the chance to go 4-wheelin' with the guys from Crawl Mag when they came to town on their Crawl Across America tour so I made sure the jeep was ready for when they got to town. What a great group of guys! Me and my GF.

ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2691_zpsr7xaswhk.jpg

I even got to drive John Herrick's Crawl Mag project "Long John Silver LJ" on the trails. What an incredibly built jeep! #lifegoals
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2707_zps2xtrm9k5.jpg

Some of the other really well built jeeps in the group.

Bryan's Ramjet powered TJ/CJ.

Terry's Rubicon with JK 44 rear and HP 44 front.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2723_zps36amu1vk.jpg

John's LJ. What doesn't this jeep have?! It's built to the max.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2724_zpsphtwcel5.jpg

My little mail jeep in front of John's LJ. You don't really get a chance to tell the size comparison of my jeep versus later model jeeps until you park it directly next to one. The perspective messes with you on this photo.

Here are a few other random photos.

My buddy, Mike, who helped me with the engine wiring installed the new windshield for me.

LizardSkin spray-in Ceramic Insulator.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2610_zpsmheh9gzx.jpg

I used a Satin Clear Coat for the finish on the jeep. This gives you an idea of the shine. I'm really happy with it. It sprayed on nice and even.
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2580_zps2g3fc5dx.jpg

Unclose of the custom painted on graphics I painted. I designed the logo and made it in Adobe Illustrator. Then my buddy, Mitch, had it cut out for me. I'm very happy with this part of the paint job! The best part is that a lot of people who have seen the paint finished, didn't realize the text said "Gone Postal" instead of "United States Postal Service".
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2598_zpsmgge9c3d.jpg

And lastly, what my garage looked like with my "custom" paint booth. It looked like I was going to murder some people!
ai1024.photobucket.com_albums_y309_95builtjeep_gone_20postal_IMG_2524_zpslo7fkqxc.jpg

I need a TJ cage

It'd be worth the distance just to see this thing in person

Haha. I can build you one. I have a few projects ahead of yours. If I don't get theirs done first, I may have a hit out on me! HAHA!

That interior color reminds me of the stock cj that use to sit inside of tarheel 4wd. It still may be there been years since I was there always liked that color. brother it looks bad ass

Awesome job. I love this thing. You do some nice work.

Off topic, who's tan LJ is that? I've seen it at the Lowe's in Concord and wondered if those were your tires and wheels you had for sale a while back.
